Bears running back Cedric Benson, whose job is in jeopardy after he was arrested for drunk driving, claims that he aced the field sobriety test after a police officer pulled him over in Austin, Texas.
The Chicago TV station WMAQ reported Sunday night that Benson sent a text message to one of its reporters saying, “I aced the field test, check the video.”
So far no video of the incident has been released, but an Austin police spokeswoman offered a different version of events, saying Benson was arrested as a result of poor performance in the field sobriety test. Benson refused a Breathalyzer and would not provide a blood sample.
Benson’s lawyer says that Benson wasn’t drunk but did consume two or three drinks. Benson is expected to participate in the Bears’ organized team activities today.

I’m sure its just not cool to have a driver, and that’s why some of these athletes choose not to hire one despite the fact they like to be mobile when drinking.

This idiot just doesn’t get it. It doesn’t matter that he may or may not have “aced” his sobriety test. What matters is that he was drinking and driving at all. Moron. Thomas Jones has to be pointing and laughing at the Bears right now. I know I am.

You know if you had TWO drinks. You know if you had THREE drinks. Releasing a statement that you had two or three means you know you had more than that.

Idiot. Refuse all field tests if you’ve had so much as a beer. Criteria for failing coordination tests is extremely subjective so if the cop wants to take you in bad enough, he’ll find something that you did wrong. Don’t make it easy on him or a jury by submitting to any sort of field test. That said, a $50 cab ride is way cheaper than legal fees + a meeting with Goodell are ever gonna to be. WTF.

You can only play the Im being picked on card so many times, and even then you have to provide some proof. Now I can understand his complainging getting pepper sprayed if he was not being physically beligerent. But to say hey I passed the test look at the video. But then refuse a breathalizer to prove his innocence. That just means one of two things. 1)he is extreamly dumb. Or 2) he was drunk, and thinks he can get off of the charge by not submitting proof of his alchol content.

If I were Benson I wouldn’t really trust my judgment if I was indeed intoxicated. What are the statements most used by drunk people? “I’m good.”; “I’m all right.”; “Don’t worry about me, I’m okay.”; “I’m okay.”

If I thought I was getting targeted I would agree to blood, breath and urine test to prove my innocence and they go after the agency if they are way off base.
Also at 220 pound he needs 6-7 drinks in a one hour period and a drink an hour to maintain a .08% BAC. “Two beers” is the standard answer for everyone pulled over.

as bears fan I just wanna say thanks ced, thanks alot for making me look like an idiot for giving you the benefit of the doubt after the boating incident.I will never understand why you or any other rich athelete refuse to have a driver on call or fork over the money to call a cab. nobody is trying to deny you a good time just don’t be an idiot about it!unlike the average guy you can afford to have somebody come and pick you no matter if you have had a little or alot to drink. so just do it already and they can pull you over all they want with nothing to show for it.in the meantime bears go on and cut the cord now before the league steps in and suspends him. they should also make sure no team is aloud to sign this year either.

KRH438, Thanks! My brother in law told me about it after he was part of a test group for a Pittsburgh police department (they got him drunk for junior officers to observe eye movements).
I will try this test about half way through our fantasy football draft this year to make other owners paranoid, to gain an advantage. Is that cheating Patriots fans?

I have plenty of students who fail constantly, but still feel they deserve an A grade. Kids today, football star or not, all seem to have an undeserved sense of entitlement. They all need a good smack in the face.
