The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finally come up with the best possible strategy for dealing with the past rape allegations involving recently re-signed tight end Jerramy Stevens.
They’ve forbidden their fans from mentioning the situation on the team’s official message boards.
A reader sent to us a link to a message from a moderator, who explains that the “Jerramy Stevens article” (i.e., this one) may not be discussed on the official team message boards.
The “only“ reasons for the decision are:
(1) “If linked to, it will contains words which are censored here, and will thus be consided [sic] by-passing the censors.”
(2) “The article brings up, to paraphrase, forcing someone into sexual activities. That topic is not allowed here.”
The moderator then cautions that anyone posting or linking to the article “will be suspended,” and closes by calling the move “a warning as much as a favor.” (Whatever in the hell that means.)
It’s an intriguing approach. A team like the Bucs who has signed a player who (allegedly) has done certain unspeakable things can prevent discussion of the unspeakable things that the player (allegedly) has done by blocking discussion of such unspeakable things generally.
Hey, Bucs — you’re only making a bad situation worse, and you’re only providing folks who are inclined to criticize you for re-signing Stevens more fodder for keeping the story alive.

I’m not surprised. The moderators over there have been known for years for over moderating.

Oh COME ON. They’re basically admitting he’s a piece of sh*t, and they attempt to cover it via censoring members of the board? That’s ridiculous. PLEASE somebody organize a boycott of these a**wipes.

And thank god, LookyLou, that Florio brings us who gets arrested–it sheds the light on the amount of morons(i.e criminals) that comprise the ‘enchanted’ NFL

its funny. i tried to register for their official site, and they require that you do not have a free email account like my gmail. i am guessing many others, as i was going to do, were going to troll their site and ask why this prick is getting another year. if you guys haven’t had a chance to read the details of what really went down at the u of wash, would suggest it. this guy should be in jail for what he did not out defending his right to play football. hey, i guess he is taking the heat off of another POS in pacman jones. thanks for that one dallas.

It’s not at all unusual for a message board to block negative comments (if it’s a moderated company-run message board) although it does anger members. Message boards are a place for a ton of negativity.
That said, I agree that signing this wreck of a human being to an NFL contract deserves whatever negative comments it brings.

Years ago, I gave up on the NBA because of the number of “thugs” who were allowed to continue play and have their indiscretions quietly swept away from the PR magnet. They were not the type of guys I’d want my son admiring. Now, we see the same thing happening in the NFL. Granted, Goodell is attempting to make changes, but there is only so much he can do if owners continue to employ dirtbags like Stevens. I’m pretty sure that at some point, fans will begin to feel the same way as we felt about the NBA (and their declining numbers bear me out). Either the owners get a clue and kick morons/criminals to the curb, or we’ll spend our dollars elsewhere. How do you explain to your kid that one guy commits rape and goes to prison while another goes on to millions of dollars and a professional football career. Way to go Tampa Bay.

I hope the Bucs go down in flames this season.
If Stevens plays as well as he did in the Super Bowl (”and he drops it”) that should be a given.

Florio, you dislike Gruden for whatever reason, but put this thing to bed buddy. This is OLD NEWS. This site is quickly becoming the E! network online for the NFL. Whats next? Pics of football players with space aliens ala the old Weekly World News days? Move on.

TBBB has long been known by Buc fans as one where the power has gone to the moderator’s heads, so their reaction isn’t surprising.
Why is there all this outrage now? The same information was brought up a year ago without all this moral indignation, and Stevens was squeaky clean last season.
The rally against Stevens is spearheaded by Tampa sports talk radio’s biggest loudmouth, Steve Duemig. Duemig has/had a mancrush on Mike Alstott and felt Alstott was not respected or used enough by Bucs’ HC Jon Gruden. As a result Duemig has made it his personal crusade to tear down Gruden, Bruce Allen and the Bucs. As mentioned in an earlier post, Florio considers Duemig his friend, and voilà, the story shows up at PFT twice in the last couple of days.
Usually Florio plays both sides of the fence in a controversy to stir debate and interest, I’ll be interested to see whether or not he does in this case.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Bulletin Board is moderated by veteran members of the board, not by the actual team. It has always had very strict rules about what can be posted there. They consider it a family board and discussing rape isn’t exactly child friendly.
They’ve obviously had no problem allowing other Stevens threads to remain: http://bbs.buccaneers.com/showthread.php?t=160042

How is this “old news”?
To break it down into bite-sized chunks: Story #1) Stevens the scumbag TE was resigned by the Bucs. Story #2) the Tampa Bay brain trust is forbidding their fan base from discussing this on the official site.
Those are different stories, even though one guy (Stevens) figures prominently in both stories.

What is pretty funny here is that almost every draftnik on here knew all about Shockey’s indiscretions BEFORE Seattle drafted him and since he’s come into the league he has been an alcoholic and bad tenant but not a violent criminal. Since he signed with the Bucs last season he hasn’t done anything wrong… why wasn’t there more outrage last season? This guy’s police record hasn’t grown since coming to Tampa and yet the Bucs are being crucified for re-signing a guy that hasn’t committed a crime since becoming a Buccaneer while not much was thought of it when he originally signed with the team. STOOOOPID!
I’m not a fan of Stevens, but why is this old news suddenly shocking news? Everybody in the NFL knew about this guy’s police record last season and the negative press surrounding his signing in 2007 was minimal… the only difference between now and then is that Stevens has gone well over a year without a problem and has possibly shown he has finally learned. Let’s all crucify him now, 5-6 years after the alleged crime but give the Seahawks a free pass despite drafting him or give the Bucs a free pass for last season’s signing.

Hey Florio,
It’s obvious you have a hard on for Gruden, the Bucs and news from 8 years ago. Get in line with the Dungy loving ,war mongering Gruden haters. Since Jeremy’s college days, he’s played several years for the Shawks, Bush has been elected twice, we went to war with Iraq and the Patriots (hahahaha) have went 18-doh while becoming the asteric of the NFL as cheaters inc.
It’s obvious your traffic is increasing however you will earn very little money because your content is lame and does not bring buyers. BTW, for those of you new to TB inc home MB, most real fans that value their time don’t spend it there any more due to the lack of freedom of expression. What a surprise.
