New England Patriots offensive lineman Nick Kaczur, who was identified this week as a cooperating witness in a drug investigation, practiced on Friday with his team as part of a mandatory minicamp.

Kaczur was arrested on April 27 for possession of a controlled substance.  He later wore a wire and made further purchases of OxyContin tablets from his supplier, Daniel Ekasala.

“The legal process is taking its course,” coach Bill Belichick said.  Kaczur did not speak to reporters.  Previously, Kaczur said that he knew nothing about the situation; the other available evidence seems to dispute that.  Strongly.

Though Kaczur apparently will escape criminal penalties due to his cooperation, the NFL could take a close look at the situation, especially if Kaczur failed to report the initial arrest to the team or to the league.

Also, the presence of a “snitch” in the locker room could create a little awkwardness for Kaczur, and likewise could result in a split between players who support Kaczur’s decision to get “wired up” and those who believe that he sold out the guy who previously had been providing the drugs that Kaczur was buying.
