Bears running back Cedric Benson has been arrested. Again.
This time, Benson was busted for driving while intoxicated in Austin. He was stopped for a traffic violation and refused to submit to breath or blood testing.
When Benson was arrested for drunk boating and resisting arrest in May, Benson professed his innocence. Witnesses claimed that Benson had been roughed up by police, who ultimately give him a face full of pepper spray.
This time around, no additional information has been reported as to whether there are any such side issues.
Regardless, the Bears have to be getting tired of this routine. The fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft is becoming far more trouble than he ever was worth.
And remember this — the Bears dumped defensive tackle Tank Johnson last year after Johnson was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Though Johnson presumably was on a last-chance arrangement with the team after being incarcerated earlier in the year on a probation violation, Benson could be in a similar predicament with the team if he has been told in the wake of his May arrest that his next arrest will be his last one as a member of the Chicago Bears.

Hey Ronny boy….Name some felons on the Jags squad? You can’t because when Ahmad Carrol got his felony arrest he was cut quicker than you can say ‘America’s Turdteam’

I also was willing to give Benson the benefit of the doubt on the boat issue, but after this incident another thought occurred to me. I wonder if Benson has a bit of an alcohol problem that needs to be addressed.

It wasn’t his fault. The cops had it in for him. He was just driving along and got pulled over for no reason. This has got to stop in this country. Everyone should not be subjected to such police tactics. We need to stand up and fight this with all of our hearts. Just because they find out your drunk doesnt mean they had the right to pull you over. I mean give him a chance it’s not like he pulled a Lynch. Plus he is a star running back in the NFL.

I woke up this morning to the ESPN text message with this news and all I could say was “You have got to me [insert expletive here] kidding me.” I am not a Bears fan or a Benson fan (who is?) but this is getting out of hand. Roger Goodell is probably popping headache medicine like no other. He should probably buy stock in Motrin at this point.
I understand that he hasn’t been convicted, but he did refuse sobriety tests, and that’s enough for an arrest. Last time I checked, that is enough for a suspension in the NFL. We all know that Pacman Jones was never convicted of anything and he was out for all of 2007. I wouldn’t be surprised if Goodell is ready to throw a 2 or 4 game suspension Benson’s way. With these new league rules that fine teams for their players’ actions, the Bears have to be very careful with this whole situation. You know they don’t want to be paying out the butt for Benson’s bad decisions.
Enter Matt Forte stage right.

Sensabaugh, Khalif Barnes. other lesser names…among others…
“It’s the fourth time this off-season that players for the Jaguars have been named in the NFL police blotter. In March Gerald Sensabaugh was arrested for speeding and “carrying arms.” Prior to that Charles Sharon was charged with stealing a handgun. In November Khalif Barnes was arrested for drunk driving, and in March video surfaced of him calling the cop who arrested him a “KKK Devil.”
Pro Football Talk has called the Jaguars the “Bengals South.” When you’re being compared to the Bengals, you know it’s bad.”

I know Cedric - everyone is out to get you. The police always go after high profile individuals. However, YOU are not as high profile as you think you are. You have done NOTHING in the NFL (except spend your signing bonus). I guess the next ball you carry will have a chain attached to it.

Well that takes care of any thinking that the Bears are going to keep him around. I actually am looking forward to seeing who is going to step up in the backfield to replace him.

But in May he said, he didn’t have a drinking problem… I don’t understand… I’m sure this is all just a misunderstanding or police conspiracy… The 5-0s are picking on him because he’s an alcoholic… That’s just discrimination

Heres my theory:
The Bears really want to cut Benson, but they needed one more excuse push it over the top.
So the Bears hired Kaczur from the Pats to go out and have a drink with Benson. Of course Mr Kaczur had his own “jewelry”, and the Bears were listening to the whole conversation.
Once Benson had his 3rd Crantini the Bears called in an “anonomous tip”, and know the coast is clear to cut him.
Well played Lovie, well played!

Assuming that Benson is right that the police are out to get him, why on God’s green earth was he DRIVING then. Hire a freaking driver, take a taxi. Avoid the situation.
Or else he really did do this.
Either way he is an idiot. Plenty of guys who know how to behave never even got drafted. Give one of them a chance.

Cedric Benson with a DUI by land and sea! Maybe Lovie can hold a lantern in the Old North Church and notify law enforcement for Benson’s next DUI - “one lantern if by land, two if by sea”.

Benson refused to take the sobriety test. So, as far as my opinion is concerned, he is not entitled to a presumption of innocence.
