Bears running back Cedric Benson has been arrested. Again.
This time, Benson was busted for driving while intoxicated in Austin. He was stopped for a traffic violation and refused to submit to breath or blood testing.
When Benson was arrested for drunk boating and resisting arrest in May, Benson professed his innocence. Witnesses claimed that Benson had been roughed up by police, who ultimately give him a face full of pepper spray.
This time around, no additional information has been reported as to whether there are any such side issues.
Regardless, the Bears have to be getting tired of this routine. The fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft is becoming far more trouble than he ever was worth.
And remember this — the Bears dumped defensive tackle Tank Johnson last year after Johnson was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Though Johnson presumably was on a last-chance arrangement with the team after being incarcerated earlier in the year on a probation violation, Benson could be in a similar predicament with the team if he has been told in the wake of his May arrest that his next arrest will be his last one as a member of the Chicago Bears.

Even if he was innocent before, which I think at a minimum the police probably overreacted. He now looks very guilty, and a lot of people that gave him the benefit of the doubt before may not be so inclined to do so now.

Yes, i have defended him from the jump over the boating thing…and i really dont even like him, i just put myself in his shoes. If i stick to that principle, i would now be kicking myself in the balls and realizing that i just douched myself out of the NFL. What a clown-penis!

Who will he blame this time? While playing at Texas, the guy got out of situation after situation.
I almost wonder if he wants the Bears to cut him. He never wanted to play there in the first place.

Several people have already stated it, but it’s worth repeating … People were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt after the boating incident. But now, forget about it, he’s done.
Yet another wasted Bears 1st Round Pick ……. Argggggghhhh!!!

I was trying to give this guy the benefit of the doubt on his last issue, but the bears should just get rid of him. There are plenty of alternative options out there that won’t bring these types of issues to camp.

Since when does “arrest” = “conviction.” I agree the Bears and the NFL is within their contractual rights to release or suspend a player merely for the arrest, however, I disagree that it is appropriate.
Let it play out in the courts.

Mike Ditka: `Since when does “arrest” = “conviction.”?`
Since Mothers Against Civil Liberties got “implied consent” laws passed in all fifty states.
I’m with you 100%, MD- while drunk driving is absolutely contemptible, one of the most selfish, callous, things a man can do, but it doesn’t excuse tearing up the constitution.

While all tards out there like to joke about the Cowboys collecting turds…again, lets go on the record again saying that the current roster had zero turd points the last few years. Meanwhile, jacksonville and others amass teams of felons and nobody likes to discuss that. And other teams are still willing to give the Jared Allen’s, Leonard Little’s, and Jerramy Stevens’ of the league 4th chances. I guess its just not as fun.
