Hours after Bears running back Cedric Benson was arrested again, General Manager Jerry Angelo suggested that Benson ought to be concerned about losing his job over the matter.
“There was alcohol involved, that’s all we know,” Angelo said today, per the Chicago Tribune. “We are certainly going to take this seriously. Disappointment is too often-used word when talking about Cedric. The No. 1 lesson of every player is protect your job.”
If the Bears cut Benson (whose mug shot shows him grinning after he was arrested), their fans likely won’t mind: An unscientific poll on the Tribune’s web site shows that nearly 90 percent of respondents want the Bears to cut Benson.
Angelo also characterized the news of Benson’s arrest as “hard to believe’’ and said, “We are certainly going to take this very seriously.”

Angelo should lose his job too. Benson had a history of this junk at Texas.
You don’t take a guy in the Top 5 with the baggage he already had. Mack Brown was able to cover it up at Texas but can’t for the Bears.

I agree with KY. The only reason Benson is still with the Bears is Angelo doesn’t want to cut him and admit he wasted the 4th pick on a total bust.

This will probably be it for Benson. I didn’t buy the boating incident excuse from the start. This just confirms this guy has a problem with drinking and driving. I can’t for the life of me figure out how this guy could be so dumb. You have all this money, why not just hire someone to drive you around. Especially if you are on thin ice to begin with. Even if this was L.T. this wouldn’t be acceptable. For a scrub like Benson its not worth it to keep him around any longer

While we don’t know the whole story about either incident this is awfully stupid for a guy who has not lived up even close to where he was drafted. I thought them trading Jones was a huge mistake and that hasn’t changed.

This is way past his 2nd strike, everyone seems to be forgetting that incident where he trashed his car and left it on the freeway, and a slew of “minor incidents” that haven’t made the national wire.
As a lifelong Packers fan, I hope the Bears continue to draft men of such character and ability.

Well, he didn’t deserve the “beating on the boat” but he deserves a billyclub up the orifice for this one. I mean how dumb can you be? You suck, you just had a booze incident where you got pounded by a few cops whom certainly weren’t longhorn fans, so you think up the ingenius idea of following in the footsteps of Jared Allen, Koren Robinson AND Marshawn Lynch and test you’re coordination while boozed up and driving? Maybe he was trying to sharpen his focus and field vision by seeing if he could drive while intoxicated?
Dump him Angelo, I rather look dumb by cutting him rather than look dumb and keep being reminded about it by keeping him and having him get arrested, boozed, and battered week in and week out be it on or off the football field.

Passing on Mendenhall when he fell into their laps looks even more questionable now. This offense could look real ugly if some guys don’t step up and play beyond what they’ve shown.
