Tomase is a clown. He and Tony"I hate fans that wear pink hats" Massarotti have no clue about football. I forget more about football than those two clowns will ever know. Tomase walks around at Patriot's training Camp last year wearing a Dead Sux hat on his fat head. Why are you at a football training camp wearing a Dead Sux hat for you asswipe? Go back to Blues Traveler where you belong. Well, that and every drive thru on the planet you fat lop of dog sh*t!!!!

@ skew, others Your kidding right? 500K to BB, 1st round selection and 250K isn't punishment? The only entity to get punished for this incident were BB and the Patriots!
Walsh got his legal protection! Tomase, well he has no credibilty but, he has a job! Goodell should fine himself a 1 mil. for mis-handling what he fined BB for in Sept. 07. The Heralds sports editor should be disciplened!
Eastebrook should retire. Specter should worry about how rotten the economy is and the war in Iraq. The people of Pen. should rise up and demand some accountability for his witch-hunt!
The NFL should conviene a board comprised of Jimmy Johnson, Howard Mudd, Bill Parcells and Goodell if, and that's a big if, you really want to know about this taping. How it started and who were the perpetraters. Will they? No! Maybe, BB has been bludgeoned enough for the leagues sins?

It is the Pat fans themselves who have created so many Patriot haters. You merely have to visit any fan forum to find Patriot hooligans trashing other teams and players while supporting Patriot cheatings in all its forms( taping, IR violations, drugs, dirty play). These fans can only brag about wins, and little else about that organization. Forgotten is sportsmanship and honorable winning. That doesn't occur up in New England. Were it not for those amoral and arrogant fans, more other fans might tend to get on with the 2008 season instead of dwelling on 2007 cheating. It's the Pat fans who keep the resentment fresh in the minds of 31 other teams' fans. The media is aware of that, and is playing to the broader audience. That's what they are paid to do.

PaulOttCarruth, I live in Green Bay, so obviously things could be different here then out that way...but around here, Fridays practices are covered in the Saturday papers, and the local papers websites usually don't update until about the time the a.m. newspaper additions are going out, unless it's something huge. An offseason practice isn't that big a deal around here unless someone is injured, and in Green Bay, there isn't jack else to do or care about.

Hutch, how can one post a comment on the Internet, yet never have heard of the internet?

Nothing John Tomase could have reported about the Patriots justifies the abuse he’s taking from those few utterly classless fans. Also, Pats homer, comparing the Patriots’ attempt to win a mere 3rd Super Bowl to Lance Armstrong’s or Tiger Woods’ accomplishments illustrates how ridiculously out of touch some of you Patriots fans are. Give you guys barely more than half a decade of winning and you suddenly think you’re the Yankees or the Canadiens. All those three Super Bowls have done for you is put you 9 Championships behind Green Bay, by the way. But only 6 behind Chicago.

No, but we have the Celtics. As of the last decase yes the Pats are boss in the NFL. I believe the post you were referring to is comparing breaking an unsubtantiated story that basically threw the Pats threw the mud again the night before the biggest moment. I don't think he is comparing the Pats' success against Woods or Armstrong.

Anyway, stop being so jealous of the Pats' success in about 5-6 years maybe they'll stop beating on your team by then.

Pats* fans are so cute. They call for Tomase to be fired, yet don't think anything should be done to Belicheat for cheating, or "misinterpreting the IR rules".

And "Stealing signals is legal"?

Really?

Well, it's not against the "law", but it is against the "Rules", or it wouldn't be called "Stealing".

Pats* fans are pathetic.

Florio, you are overthinking it. Steve Buckley and Tony Massarotti, two senior Red Sox writers have been covering the Celtics NBA Finals. The Herald must be stretched thin, so Tomase is helping them cover the Sox. BEAT LA!

As a Pats fan, I was unhappy with Tomase. But as a newspaper person (my 9-to-5), I think a lot of the blame should rest on the shoulders of the editors. Unfortunately for Tomase, their names aren't attached to the stories as well. Karen Guregian is the only sportswriter I like at the Herald anyway. Go Girl Power!

Tomase has done some real damage to the team, the fans and the NFL!
You don't break a story the night before the Super Bowl without proof! Especially, when it's a single source. He allowed the constant barage of haters to continue the "cheaters moniker," he was pulling the scab off the sore on a daily basis. Gross, but accurate!
One of the Patriots motto's "do your job," would apply to Tomase as well! The fact is he blew it. His editor's dropped the ball allowing this story to be printed in the first place!
Hey, this is America, freedom of speech and other freedoms we enjoy, comes with responsibilities. Just because you can do a thing, doesn't mean it should be done. I believe this is a fundimental rule of journalism! You better have your ducks in a row before you print a story like that! He didn't, the editorial process at the Herald needs to be re-evaluated. I'm a Pats fan so I think someone's head should roll over this big of a mistake.
The facts seem to be, yes BB taped opponents coaches for usage at a later time, next game or possible play off contender. Stealing signals is legal! As long as you steal them the old fashioned way. BB told the Commish he'd been at this since 2000, hence the huge fine and draft pick. Goodell didn't share that info. with the rest of us. Probably, in the hope that the whole thing would just go away! It didn't, he misjudged the reaction of the fans. Wildcard, Specter! He didn't count on his involvment. Goodell is at least partially responsible for the misinformation. Simply by telling us in Sept. that BB had been taping since 2000, he could've avoided some of the gaps in this story. It would've made complete sense why the penalty was so steep!
In the beggining stages of this mess, Goodell should've been upfront with the information. Now, non-pats fans are clamoring "cover up!" The Herald story and Sen. Specter seem to infer that there was a cover up. The facts are there were "gaps," in the story. We couldn't get from point a to b. ESPN commentators Schlereth and Carter speculations on how the tapes were used during halftime? Completely, false statements on air!
Matt Walsh, was a complete waste of time. He coraborated what BB had been saying all along. A full page ad of apology to the Patriots from the Herald. Yet, we are still "cheaters," and BB is a scumbag.
OK, whatever makes you feel better!
At a minimum Tomase should be reassigned, cover the OB's maybe? He shouldn't be covering the team period! He should in my opinion resign!

Anyone notice that Tomasse also gaffed in his May 29th blog about Willie Andrews as well? He wrote, "Andrews was pulled over in Lowell on Feb. 5, just two days after the Super Bowl, with three bags of pot totaling a half pound."

Then he issues an "update" at 4:20 p.m. which said: The original post said three pounds of pot. It was three bags, totaling half a pound. Thanks to colleague Karen Guregian and a trio of eagle-eyed readers for pointing it out.

Duh!

Hutch, how can one post a comment on the Internet, yet never have heard of the internet?

Nothing John Tomase could have reported about the Patriots justifies the abuse he's taking from those few utterly classless fans. Also, Pats homer, comparing the Patriots' attempt to win a mere 3rd Super Bowl to Lance Armstrong's or Tiger Woods' accomplishments illustrates how ridiculously out of touch some of you Patriots fans are. Give you guys barely more than half a decade of winning and you suddenly think you're the Yankees or the Canadiens. All those three Super Bowls have done for you is put you 9 Championships behind Green Bay, by the way. But only 6 behind Chicago.

Maybe he has learned to double check his sources and that is taking him longer than it used to?

Na, didn't think so.

Fans of other teams can act innocent, but if this was happening to their team, they would all act the same way. What John Tomase did is unprecedented. There will be CHAPTERS about him written in every knew Journalism text book created for the rest of time.

Human nature dictates that Belichick gets a second chance and Tomase doesn't. Who would you side with? The popular head coach that brought you three Super Bowls and will likely bring you more (and at the time was on the brink of a possible fourth) or some writer who has a history of trying to be controversial to get attention? Seems like a pretty simple answer.

With Boston fans, though, this isn't the first time Tomase has drawn our ire. The whole reason he is on the Patriots beat is because he got pulled from the Red Sox beat for an article he wrote about Manny Ramirez that infuriated Boston fans where he lambasted Manny and called him gutless, blamed him for high ticket prices at Fenway and questioned his heart, all because he took a day off the day after getting hit in the HEAD by a pitch.

Tomase even admitted that he was TRYING to make a splash like that article in his apology article. So I have no sympathy for what John Tomase is dealing with, because as he freely admits, it's what he was looking to get. Unfortunately, now he gets to wear the Scarlett letter in the industry as THE GUY with the single biggest F-UP int he history of sports journalism.

Practice if he was there on Friday.

Besides being an incompetent reporter, Tomase is one of the worst sports bloggers ever. He'll disappear from the second half of almost every game. It's amazing no matter how close the game there are almost no entries once the second half hits.I guess he's trying to get all the beers before concession closes. That would explain his writing as well.

Maybe we are saying "No mas, no Tomase..."

ummmm, crazy thought...

He attended a practice on Friday, so, if he were to write something, it would be in Saturday's paper?

Good question there at the end. Something is a tad bit fishy.

It's too bad for John Tomase. But it's his own fault for reporting something as a fact that is not true.
