Kudos to Abram Elam, a defensive back who has faced a substantial amount of tragedy in his life on his way to the NFL dream. These are the players that may never see their respective name on hanging on a jersey in the nfl.com shop, but are ultimately the unsung role models. If only players like PacMan Jones would value their fragile opportunity to make millions of dollars to perform on Sunday.

On the other hand, contrary to my comment about how Delhomme should come back well fast from his elbow surgery, Rivers appears to be pushing it, and I think the3re is a decent chance he has some trouble. A replaced ACL takes almost a year to recover from for two reasons: 1) the new ligament has to be completely biochemically re-formed, and there is simply no substitute for time, no matter how cute the rehab program is- at this stage, Rivers’ replacement ACL is about half as strong as was his original one, so the chance of re-tearing it with any contact at all are pretty high; and 2) his proprioception (has to do with motor control and reflexes) are substandard- slower, less sure and less stable. The knee sensor system has to be completely retrained, like a stroke patient- and that also takes a lot longer than 6 months.

Tommy Kelly
I heard there was a reporter who got a hot tip that Kelly had gotten the contract because Al Davis thought it was actually Jim Kelly that they were signing to a mega deal. Senility at its finest!
