The Philadelphia Eagles have announced the acquisition of fullback Luke Lawton in a trade with the Colts.
Indianapolis received a conditional 2009 draft choice, which probably means the Eagles will get a chance to try Lawton out through training camp and the preseason and will only have to give compensation to the Colts if Lawton makes the roster.
The 27-year-old Lawton has spent time on the Giants’ and Bills’ practice squads and played four games for the Jets in 2005 and 11 for the Colts in 2007. He has never started a game, but did have a notable highlight last year when he caught a shovel pass from Peyton Manning for a one-yard touchdown against the Jaguars. He’s also a contributor on special teams.
That the Eagles felt the need to acquire a fullback could be a sign that the coaching staff has doubts about the ability of Dan Klecko to make the transition from defensive tackle to fullback. Thomas Tapeh, who played fullback for the Eagles last season, signed with the Vikings as a free agent.

Yawn, The Eagles Special Teams sucked last year, if he makes through training camp that’s where he’ll land. This is nowhere near as exciting as last years aquisitons: Ian Scott, Bethel Johnson, Montea Reagor…

That’s 4 FBs on the roster - 3 vets (Jason Davis, Dan Klecko, and now Luke Lawton), plus a rookie free agent FB (Jed Collins). Almost as many FBs as WRs.
Hmmm, sounds like Andy has found a way to avoid all those pesky WR troubles with a new 3 FB set. Hey, maybe they’re slow, but they’re much less trouble. And cheaper, too, so Joe Banner likes it - he can pay all 4 of them with the return of TO’s prorated bonus money.

considering we don’t even use the fullback for anything, it’s ye another development of many that just doesn’t make any real sense.

Lee C. - it was a joke. Maybe if Florio had posted the story my sarcasm would have come across better.

The rookie FB Jed Collins had this appendix removed and isn’t participating in OTAs. I think that is why they got Lawton.
Also, Jason Davis was in line to start last year until he was injured during the pre-season.

Enough with the Mormon BS already there is actually nothing to back that up with real numbers. If you don’t like Mormons then we might as well cut Curtis while we’re at it.
Name a WR that is actually available? Really come on. I want one too but considering 3 of 4 NFC East teams were all bidding for these guys and NONE of them were moved then there was nothing that could have been done. They drafted Jackson but I guess that isn’t good enough.
Its f’ing competition. Were you really that satisfied with the prospects we had a FB that another body to compete is such a bad thing? They’re only going to keep 1 FB like always but with position battle wide open a guy that is actually a FB not a converted something else is a good thing. Let the best man win. But I guess that’s too hard for you people to grasp.
I also don’t think Davis was injured last year I think that was the year before. Tapeh ended up winning last year because he was the incumbent but I’m not sold on Davis. He has an injury history and may be a little undersized.
We haven’t used a FB because Tapeh couldn’t catch for ish so putting him out there other than a blocker didn’t make a lot of sense. This guy according to his scouting report is supposed to be a West Coast Offense type FB. Maybe he’ll work out if not we didn’t loose anything because they only get a 7th if he makes the team.

Hey, did the Colts also trade that hand made Belgian hand gun to the Eagles too? Maybe they can trade the coach who is the love child of Gumby and Dumbo the elephant! Maybe Andy Reid and Tony Dungy can teach classes on how not to raise kids. What a fake christian Phony Dungy is!!!!!!!!!
