A league insider raised a great observation in connection with the Denver Broncos’ recent decision to part ways with running back Travis Henry, after paying him $6.7 million for one year of service.

Several months ago, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen complained about the 2006 Collective Bargaining Agreement, due to the amount of money that the players receive.

But, in this specific case, the problem isn’t the CBA, but the decision of the Broncos (via coach and de facto G.M. Mike Shanahan) to give so much money to Henry.

So if Bowlen doesn’t want to spend so much money on players, he should at a minimum put measures in place to prevent his team from spending so much money on players who don’t deserve it.

One such measure would be to hire a strong G.M. to make the personnel decisions, with or without Shanahan sticking around as the head coach.
