Bill Parcells ended his long public silence about Jason Taylor’s status with the Dolphins today, saying that he wants the defensive end to remain on the roster.
“Why wouldn’t you want one of the very best players?” Parcells said in an interview with The Associated Press. Parcells said that any talk of a rift between him and Taylor was a “fabrication” and that “of course” he wants him to be a Dolphin for the 2008 season. He also addressed the story about him ignoring Taylor when the player entered the same room.
He said there were 25-30 other people in the room when Taylor entered and that “he didn’t even see him.” Taylor’s take indicated that Parcells did see him and brushed him off but, overall, Tuna’s comments continue to defuse the adversarial relationship between team and player.
The cooling off period will certainly help matters if Taylor stays in town but it will also help if Parcells still hopes to trade him. When everyone was at each other’s throats, no one was going to offer much for Taylor because the impression was that the Dolphins were eager to get rid of him. Mending fences should help the team get some of their hand back which helps them no matter how the whole affair plays out.

How different the story when the full context is known.

Personally, I think Taylor is trying to have his cake and eat it too. He is trying to shoot his way out of town, but not look like the bad guy in doing so. I tend to believe Parcells’ side of the story since Taylor has gone out of his way to paint himself as a victim who doesn’t want to be traded, but wouldn’t be upset if he did. Usually, the guy who is trying hardest to protect his image is the guy who is making the bigger lie. Taylor is trying too hard to be the victim in all of this.

If he didn’t see Taylor, how does he know when Taylor was there and that there were 25 other people in the room? And why didn’t he track down Taylor afterwards? Nah doesn’t hold up, fat a** is lying yet again.

Is it possible that the Tuna realized that by getting rid of Taylor to make a point to the rest of the team, he’d be getting rid of one of the few (if not only) players on his roster that has actual NFL talent?

Parcells at his finest. He knows how to work a situation into his favor. I just hope this charade doesn’t cause the Cowboys to get further fleeced by the New Jersey Con-Man.

How insecure must someone be to have such a need to be singled out and acknowledged in a room full of people?

Did you read the original story? Is Jason Taylor’s ego that fragile? He is being “brushed off” by someone who is essentially a “consultant” for the team? Why all this bother with Parcells/Taylor crap when the head coach is Tony Sparano?
