Dolphins cornerback Will Allen was questioned last month in connection with an altercation in a parking lot outside a Bed Bath & Beyond store.

That initial report made the incident sound funny, but it sounded a lot more serious when further reports surfaced that Allen pulled a gun on someone over a gambling debt.

For his part, however, Allen now says the whole issue is over.

It is a closed matter as far as I’m concerned,” Allen said today, per the Sun-Sentinel.  ”I didn’t consider it anything in the first place.”

But what matters is whether the police and the NFL consider it anything.  And the Davie Police Department says its investigation remains ongoing, while the NFL is reportedly looking into Allen’s activities.

The Sun-Sentinel quotes Lt. William Coyne, spokesman for the Davie police , as saying, “Our detectives are still investigating it.  The detective who is heading the investigation will be away most of [June].  Our investigation probably won’t be complete until July or August.  When it is, it will be sent to the State Attorney for review.”

With that kind of time frame, this issue won’t be over until, at the earliest, the start of training camp.  Even if Allen says the issue is over now.
