According to John Clayton, the New Orleans Saints have signed veteran corner Jerametrius Butler after a weekend tryout.
The news hasn’t made its way to the New Orleans papers nor to the team’s website yet but the signing was likely to create depth while Mike McKenzie makes his way back from knee surgery. It was a deep group already, especially after adding Randall Gay and Tracy Porter over the offseason, but not a particularly good one last season so the more the merrier.
Butler signed with the Bills while last season was already underway and played in seven games, starting just once. He was a starter with the Rams in 2003 and 2004 but a knee injury cost him 2005 and helped launch the journeyman phase of his career.

Good call, Florio. I went to Saints camp last weekend and Butler indeed looked like a player who wants to prove himself, made a couple of nice plays on the ball and broke up a sure catch to Colston. Overall, the unit didn’t show a whole lot sans pads but definitely looks to be a more promising group than in past years. Which isn’t saying much, but is a good start for sure. Porter and Gay looked good as well.
