Cap Casualty! T.O. keeps dropping wide open passes and they have to cut him at the end of the year, spread that money over two years. Or they keep him in a reduced role and his head explodes he causes a huge distraction and they miss the playoff's.

Why not let him finish his existing contract and let him gauge the market another year from now, when he's another year older. No one is going to pay that for a 35 year old receiver. They can keep him at a much lower price. I have a feeling T.O. and Philly are laughing... he got away with what?!?!

Vox - Do I really have to mention the kind of distraction that T.O. has placed on that team. As a previous poster said, "Dallas fans like to sugarcoat T.O.'s behavior" which includes one suicide threat and numerous on field-arguements with Romo, oh and the ridiculous controversy over Jessica Simpson. One word, distraction. Lest we forget a billion drops. How many times have you seen Moss drop an easily catchable ball. And despite yours attempts to stir up debate over Moss's activity, he stayed with New England despite a better off from Philadelphia. I think he realized what a great QB can do for his statistics. All bickering aside, I'll admit Moss hasn't always been the biggest hustler on the field, but if you look at those times, it usually had to do with being surrounded by garbage. The greatest corp in league history couldn't have saved Oakland.

"Vox Veritas - Maybe nobody has caught more td passes since TO joined the Cowboys… but I’m pretty sure nobody has dropped more. And comparing him to Moss is ridiculous. Moss had one season since TO joined the Cowboys with a good QB."

I'm sorry, did Moss miss the 2006 season or something? If you're waiting on a guy to implode, Randy Moss is your guy. Sure things are great now that Brady is feeding him the ball but he'd better be the primary target on EVERY play or he's gonna dog it and it'll be like the Pats only have 10 guys on the field. Don't say it won't happen, because he's done exactly that everywhere he's been. Yes he's dogged it since he's been with the Patriots, too.

FOXBORO - ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski saw something in the Patriots [team stats]-Eagles game film that was troubling beyond what Philadelphia did in coverage to shut down Randy Moss on Sunday night.

During a conference call with reporters yesterday, Jaworski, who will be in the booth for Monday night’s game between the Pats and Ravens in Baltimore, claimed he saw Moss slacking off at times when his number wasn’t called.

Keepint the playoff win drought in mind, they STILL have many, many more playoff wins than your team has had in it's entire existence! I am glad to see that it's eating you up so bad that you are counting the days though!

Robo679 says:

"Part of the reason Parcells retired was rumored to be because he didn’t want TO on the team and Jones wouldn’t let him cut him."

Good, whatever it was that put Parcells over the edge is a-ok in my book. Wade basically took his'n and won 4 more games with them.

One thing about Cris Carter, though... his rapid decline in 2001 roughly coincided with the decline of the Vikings as a team (and Culpepper... the Vikes had to resort to Spergon Wynn at QB in 2001), and he had gastroenteritis and some kind of kidney problem in '02.

A lot of people that post on here need to think before they do so, then cut off both of their hands.

@Robo769:

I am well aware of the history of receivers in their mid-30s. But Mud Hens is absolutely correct: "As for his decline, he’s spent his career keeping in the best shape of any player out there. "

The guy sleeps in a hyperbaric chamber. He has no injury history to speak of, besides getting Roy-collared into a broken leg.

Wait, no, horse-collared. My bad.

Not to borrow too much from Mud Hens' post, but he said it quite well. If any of the current older receivers in the league is gonna last (productively) until 40 or close to it, that player will absolutely be TO.

Definitely not Harrison. Definitely not Holt nor Bruce. THOSE guys are declining. TO is still going strong.

(and just as a disclaimer, I am not a Cowboys' fan, a Patriots fan, nor a Terrell Owens fan, or anything else cliche that you haters can respond with "stupid fans." Go Falcons!)

Great for TO bad news for dallas fans.

Now since the cowboys fans are overly arrogant even though they haven't won a playoff game since god knows when. They don't realize that Randy Moss got this type of deal at 31 not 35. TO is going to be 39 at the end of the deal. I have all faith in TO but what i don't like is that jerry jones is giving in to him because he thinks he'll become a problem. When was the last time this guy played 16 games, yes he shows up when needed but he has been having injury problems. your number 2 is terry glenn who is no where close to his former form. Patrick Crayton basically lost the divisional game for them. Its not the worst concept to sign everytime he might become a problem but hes not getting any younger and hes the best receiver you got. Maybe you should try investing in other people.

@ wingnut says:

"Vox thats because Dallas doesn’t have other recievers."

There's been plenty of other TD passes thrown to other guys since he signed with the Cowboys.

TO - 28
Witten - 8
Crayton - 11
Glenn - 6
Barber - 4
Curtis - 3
Fasano - 1
Hurd - 1

34 non-TO TD catches by my count.

Or is this a joke? Are you just mocking him like the freak on You Tube crying over Brittany Spears?

roofdog: It's sorry people like you that make the decent Pats fans like myself look bad. Shut up.

In terms of this move, I like it, as much as T.O. is up there in age he still has at the very least 2 years of top tier receiving in him, and on the third he can be cut if there's a notice of his performance declining. I do see T.O. in the same category as Moss, and their contracts are very similar, so I think it's fair. (The extremely overpaid receiver in this league is Javon Walker, unless he actually performs to Owens/Moss levels).

I think Cowboys fans are sugarcoating TO's tenure in Dallas a bit. His first year there, he was less than a model citizen. He was a thorn in Parcell's and Bledsoe's side for most of the season. Part of the reason Parcells retired was rumored to be because he didn't want TO on the team and Jones wouldn't let him cut him. TO was a model citizen last year, but things went well for most of the year and Romo was getting him the ball. We will see if he has truly turned over a new leaf if he isn't getting the ball for a long stretch and things aren't going well for the Cowboys during this upcoming season.

As much as I hate to admit it, TO now has no reason to implode. He's been paid. He's got that last big paycheck to send off his career.

As for his decline, he's spent his career keeping in the best shape of any player out there. If any old WR has 3 - 4 years left, it's him.

If the Cowgirls are smart, they will not trade Roy Williams. So long as TO doesn't have to worry about getting horse collared, he might stay healthy.

No one can say JJ doesn't try. Sure would be funny though if they still don't win a playoff game...

The Dox,

Look at the history of WRs in the mid 30s. They hit the age wall going 150 MPH. Guys like Carter, Brown, and Smith went from solid to elite starers to average at best in an offseason's time. Carter went from 1274 yards and 9 TDs in 2000 to 871 yards and 6 TDs in 2001. Tim Brown had a "gradual" decline with 1165 yards and 9 TDs in 2001 to 930 yards and 2 TDs in 2002 to 567 yards and 2 TDs in 2003.

I’m tired of people saying that this man is crazy. He is a very sensitive person just like other celebrities in this world. (Shaq, Gary Sheffield, Chad Johnson and many others). Unfortunately, he let his emotions get the best of him and handle the situations with his former teams unprofessionally. However, he learned from his past transgressions and is handling the current situation very well. He has learned from his past situations that the way he handled his former situation was a PR nightmare especially when they don’t like him u because a person like him doesn’t kiss their ass. So finally, people on this blog please give him the benefit of a doubt because he earned it because the way he handle himself during his tenure in Dallas.

Folk, JJ and TO both know he probably only has 2 years left. They signed him to four to spread out the cap hit, simple as that. I see him staying 3 years then retiring after a HOF career and, hopefully, an SB ring

@ MidnightGreenOmen555 says:

We have yet to see the structure of the deal. His initial contract with the Cowboys was 3 years as well, it just had hefty roster bonuses factored in each spring, essentially making it one year at a time.

The new deal could very well have the same format.

Great news for Cowboys fans! When TO hits the age wall in 1-2 years, they can be in the same position the Colts are in now with an overpriced declining former superstar getting paid top dollar for what he did in the past.

For every Jerry Rice who was productive until his forties, there are a dozen Tim Browns and Cris Carters (not to mention Isaac Bruce, Rod Smith, Eric Moulds, Joe Horn, etc.) who production drops like a stone around 35 or 36. Cowboys fans better hope to God that TO can fit into the Rice camp, but so far Rice is the only one who has.

A WR at age 34 and will 35 is a little old to give a three year extension with $12 million guaranteed. WRs hit the age wall hard and fast in most cases.

TO’S 34… He does’nt have much time left."

Yeah, his production has been declining left and right (sly glance upward at the post about TO scoring more TDs than any receiver in the last 2 seasons).

Usually, when stating a player doesn't have much left, said player should've at least STARTED their decline.

Now that T.O. has an actual NFL multi-year contract and not the year by year contract that he had when he initially signed with Dallas, this gives him the wiggle room to return to the old T.O. who we know a loath.

I am taking bets now....I say he throws Romo under the bus by week 5.

If anybody knows douchebags, it’s the Patriots and their fans.

LMAO! No matter if Jerry Jones signs Satan himself, the Patsies fans will NEVER, EVER be able to claim the moral high ground on any fan of any team. I love it!

And this is a very good signing too. I'll admit that I was skeptical when T.O. was first signed, but he's been amazingly team oriented. And very productive of course.

I know the haters will continue to show their pettiness, but you know that most of them would secretly LOVE to have T.O. on their team.

GO COWBOYS!!

"Still won’t win a super bowl once a douche bag always a douche bag .Go Pats " --roofdog

Just like once a cheater always a cheater.

And the Patsies couldn't beat a wild card team with Moss AND Welker.

You can't argue the fact he's actually done quite well since arriving in Dallas. The Patsies lose the Superbowl to a wild card team, and WITH Randy Moss AND Wes Welker.

Yeah...go Pats...and take the video cameras with ya.

Good move by the cowboys. With Jerry Jones calling the shots again they will easily win the NFC East and lose their first playoff game.
