Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated is reporting that former Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman is facing an indefinite suspension after another violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
The report does not offer any specifics of the nature of the violation. Thurman missed the entire 2006 and 2007 seasons because of suspensions tied to drug and alcohol use. He was reinstated this year, but the Bengals released him last month.
His agent, Safarrah Lawson, told Trotter, “We have not been notified of that at this point. I have no knowledge,” and added that Thurman, whose grandmother recently died, is “still dealing with some family issues.”
Thurman was a 2005 second-round draft pick and was one of the league’s best defensive rookies that season. But his drug and alcohol problems have kept him off the field since then.

See, I knew there was a lot more going on than just the “grandmother’s funeral” issue.

Will this count for the new NFL ‘fine the club that the turd plays for’ policy?

And yet Pacman (who was responsible for a guy getting paralyzed), probably gets reinstated because he plays for the Cowboys.

Doubt it. Thurman i not on a roster, and the NFL is not fining teams for violations before June 1st. Every team starts off with a clean slate. Don’t worry though, I’m sure the Bengals (and Cowboys) will be in hot water in no time.

Why are these questions being asked? If you’d paid attention to what has been going on, the answers would be so apparent even a “small soap dish” would understand.

this should be a perfect example instead of telling kids to just say no.look at what drugs do to you when have a chance to have every thing you want. here’s a guy who had it and blew it on drugs. this should be the end of his nfl career. you had your chance to bad it didn’t work out hope you get your liife in order but you will not be playing in the nfl again end of story. please no sob stories about where he came from and how hard life is. he did drugs knowing what could happen not once but several times so he gets no sympathy here.

Some apologies to the Bengals organization are in order. Many pasted them for releasing Odell because of his grandmothers funeral. As is often the case, wait for the facts before making a big noise. And that includes PFT on this one…BTW, Odell, see you up here in the CFL….

I hate to see talented players lost to gangs & drugs & all that bs. And I say that as a Steelers fan glad Odell Thurman is no longer a Bengal.

WHY BOTHER?
He’ll just some take time off, go into pro wrestling, lie about an attempted murder/extortion, fail to pay debts and then get reinstated when Uncle Jerry and the Dallas Turdboys need a new lowlife linebacker.
Goodell is no more than Jerry Jones little punk b*tch!

Darth Ringo…..damn, a Steeler fan that’s not overflowing with hyperbole! You’re as rare as a Pacman sighting at church!
Agreed about it’s no good when you see someone that’s talented just waste it. I’ll never forget Stanley Wilson having a phenomenal season for the Bengals and becoming an integral part of that offense, only to show up all whacked out on coke the day before the Super Bowl.
I still wonder what was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Was psyched he was coming back 3 times I think and everytime he couldn’t make it all the way.

This guy obviously has a serious problem. I hope he can find the help he needs and get better. It’s a shame his talent was wasted.

The Bengals don’t look so stupid and ruthless now. It’s a shame because he was such a talented kid, but good riddance. And by the way, I love that his agent says “I have no knowledge”. That’s something Chad Johnson’s agent should be saying after every stupid comment he makes.

I live in Akron, and at the grocery store Saturday saw some jackass wearing a Thurman jersey. I wanted to punch him. In his face.

People are jumping to conclusions… there’s a significant possinility the problem was a missed drug test. They can demand one at any time even if he can’t make it because he’s out of town at his grandmother’s funeral, for example, and can’t make it back in time. An appeal could be successful.

I’ll never forget it either. What a heartbreaking day that was! Anyway, I hope Odell doesn’t continue to follow the Stanley Wilson path, which leads right to jail. I really hope he gets some help.

If you check back to prior post’s about his being canned for missing the OTA’s I told you he was pulled over by Hamilton COunty Sherrifs in COlrain Township and it was only a matter of time before it was going to catch up to him. So thanks to all of the idiots for bashing bashing the Bengals for spending 2 years trying to help a young man with a serious problem and jumping to conclusions about cutting him while he was at his granmothers funeral for 3 weeks missing practice. Hell we only get 3 days for our parents not 3 weeks.
