The New England Patriots announced that they’ve agreed to terms with veteran offensive tackle Oliver Ross.
Ross is 33 and has played 89 games over 10 years, making 53 starts in that time. Most of them came during his five years as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, including 2004 when he started all 16 games and helped the Steelers run for nearly 2500 yards. He joined the Cardinals the next season and injuries began to mount, culminating in a missed 2007 thanks to a torn triceps.
The Patriots didn’t take any tackles in the draft which left Ryan O’Callaghan and Wesley Britt as the only backups. Ross is a more natural right tackle but is expected to provide depth behind both Nick Kaczur and Matt Light for New England.

Dynasties actually DO lose championship games. Proof: The New England Patriots lost to the Giants in Super Bowl 42.
19-0 in 2008!

Not a huge move but a smart one by the Patriots to provide some additional OL depth. I’m not sure what he signed for but it will probably be a lot less than the $25 million over 5 years the Jests gave to Damien Woody who’s play dropped off in Detroit when he couldn’t control his weight… until such time that he did control his weight and his play got even worse.

Kinda surprised they haven’t picked up Shane Olivea as a backup. Maybe they tried and he wouldn’t go along with a backup role. Or he’s in worse shape than anyone knows. Although, if he’d failed a physical for the Pats, PFT woulda reported it immediately. Right?

wingnut says: It was a Fumble -Shane Lechler
Hilarious wingnut - I’d forgotten all about that - old Shane and all the Raiders not to mention the Raiders fans still just can’t come to grips with their loss can they? It’s kindof mean for you to rub it in like that but I love your style
One would think that the fact the NFL Competition Committee - run by all the Patriots arch rival team owners reviewed the rule in question and the play call and declared it valid, choosing not to make any changes to the tuck rule, would help Shane Lechler and all the Raiders put that nightmare choke of a loss behind them, but you’re probably right… they probably DO still try to convince themselves there’s not a tuck rule and that it was a fumble.
You really shouldn’t pray on pathetic losers like that though… its really not nice.

wingnut makes it his goal to go into every Pats related post and make some comment like ‘It was a Fumble’ or ‘Dynasties don’t lose Super Bowls’, I wonder if this really makes him feel better.
On the move, solid, depth is needed, I still don’t think he makes it through camp barring an injury to a player in the roster prior to him. The Pats usually cut players that they sign this late into free-agency.

“The Fumble” is where it all started for the Pats (and I dont mean winning superbowls)
Shane Lechler, is the best dam punter in the NFL!

Good point about the move, “josereyeso”. Maybe Ross will become part of the Pats’ unofficial taxi squad - off-roster veterans like Marcellus Rivers was last year who they can call in case of emergency/injury to regular player.
