Steven Wells is a bit of a legend over here. I used to read his music reviews in the NME and would be dissappointed if the prfanity level didn’t reach ‘Mad-Uncle-Tony-who-we-don’t-talk-about’ levels. Pleasantly surprised to see him writing so eloquently about an NFL player. Offers a slightly different perspective too.
I agree with Mike Brown too, he is definately one of the best safeties in the league. The thing is, what is the point when we basically need another starter at SS because you just know he’ll be done by November?

I am no Bush apologist, but I have a bone to pick with Mr Wells. Steven Wells doesn’t vote in this country so he can shut the hell up. His idea of an American hero is an American who finds a way to get a free ride to freedom - and then flaunt it. If Mohammad Ali was a pacifist, he wouldn’t have made his living trying to bash people’s brains in.
Wells would do well examine Europe’s morally bankrupt, decaying society. Had America done things Well’s way, he’d be speaking German. We saved their sorry asses twice only to make them doubly ungrateful. The next time Europe is threatened, I hope we put them on ignore.

I’ve never heard such a crock of BS as the conspiracy theory that this guy Wells tries to sneak into his Pat Tillman article.
I’m a big Cards fan, loved Pat and his story and was sickened by his death but for Wells to peddle the vacuous story that he was killed ON PURPOSE by Americans–”killed by three shots to the forehead fired at close range and in good visibility by a fellow US soldier (or soldiers”– just does a huge disservice to the other heros in Tillman’s unit and is a flat-out disgrace. This wacko conspiracy talk has made the rounds on the leftwing blogs and just lacks any basis in fact.
Its bad enough that he was killed by friendly fire (which I’m sure has happened too much in Iraq and Afghanistan)but to believe this crap means you have to believe that his unit was involved in his execution and is now involved in the cover-up.
If Wells(whose newspaper is the notoriously extreme leftwing rag the Guardian)is so sure of this farfetched story then lets see some proof–for example, what is his definition of “close range”?
Seems to me there are too many people out there who have watched too many ridiculous Hollywood movies.
