Earlier today, we passed along word that the Buccaneers weren’t able to quit Bruce Gradkowski as reported late last week. Because of the similarities to the Erasmus James trade, MDS wondered if the Bucs were trying to get something for Gradkowski.
The Bucs say they had no intention of making a trade involving Gradkowski, which puts them in the company of the other 31 clubs. GM Bruce Allen told the St. Petersburg Times that it was simply a clerical deal that kept them from putting Gradowski on Friday’s waiver wire. They wanted to let Gradkowsi know personally and by the time they tracked him down the league office was closed. Allen maintained he’d be on the wire today.
Now, if some team’s entire quarterbacking corps were to come down with trenchfoot and force them to look for alternatives, the Bucs could still rescind waivers and trade Gradkowski. Long-winded and probably inconsequential but wanted to be sure you knew all the potential ins and outs of this transaction.
Updated to add that I forgot the K in Mr. Gradkowski’s name when I originally posted this. I’m a little embarrassed by the mistake but pleasantly surprised that someone noticed.

Welcome to the Arena Football League Mr. Gradkowski. The talent level will be much more along the lines of those you faced at Toledo.

Yea he’s mediocre, but it is pretty pathetic that no one outside of FL or OH/PA knows who he is (way to let SportsCenter dictate the extent of your knowledge).
Say what you will, but Gradkowski has more experience & success than Jamarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Moore & John Beck PUT TOGETHER. Yet I bet EA still doesn’t have his mugshot for Madden 09…
Head to head he has better numbers than Tarvaris Jackson, Kellen Clemens & Brodie Croyle - all MUCH higher picks in 06 with darn similar playing time.

Vanderlay makes a good point — heck, the illustrious planet-gobbling Pacman Jones has only 2 years of NFL experience and from the media coverage you’d think his bust was being carved for Mt. Olympus.
Hope Gradkowski catches on somewhere. He seemed to handle Gruden and the weird QB situation in Tampa pretty well.

Gradkowski will be employed this year. The QB position is way too thin for him not to catch on with someone. Heck, I can see my Rams signing him to be the #3 if nothing else.
