Earlier today, we passed along word that the Buccaneers weren’t able to quit Bruce Gradkowski as reported late last week. Because of the similarities to the Erasmus James trade, MDS wondered if the Bucs were trying to get something for Gradkowski.

The Bucs say they had no intention of making a trade involving Gradkowski, which puts them in the company of the other 31 clubs. GM Bruce Allen told the St. Petersburg Times that it was simply a clerical deal that kept them from putting Gradowski on Friday’s waiver wire. They wanted to let Gradkowsi know personally and by the time they tracked him down the league office was closed. Allen maintained he’d be on the wire today.

Now, if some team’s entire quarterbacking corps were to come down with trenchfoot and force them to look for alternatives, the Bucs could still rescind waivers and trade Gradkowski. Long-winded and probably inconsequential but wanted to be sure you knew all the potential ins and outs of this transaction.

Updated to add that I forgot the K in Mr. Gradkowski’s name when I originally posted this. I’m a little embarrassed by the mistake but pleasantly surprised that someone noticed.
