The San Diego Chargers have signed veteran center Jeremy Newberry.
The 10-year veteran started 14 games for the Raiders in 2007. He spent nine years before that with the 49ers.
The two-time Pro Bowler was a member of the Niners during Chargers coach Norv Turner’s one-year stint as offensive coordinator in San Fran, but Newberry was injured the entire season.

He’s a decent player, but had problems snapping in the shotgun.

This is definitely a solid pick up. The bolts just got themselves a guy who at one time was a pro bowler to backup at a position where the starter has had trouble staying healthy. Nick Hardwick is one hell of a football player. He is scrappy and deserving of earning a probowl nod two years ago and the alternate spot last year. The only problem is the guy is not built like an offensive linemen and tends to be a little more fragile than other linemen as a result.Anyways I like the move. AJ gets himself a proven vet to backup a guy who hasn’t consistently proven he can play a full 16.

Now if they could only find themselves a running back who doesn’t sit out the biggest games because of a skinned knee….

Given his age, doesn’t that make him an Oldberry?
I am just glad the Chargers didn’t sign a Dingleberry.

Now, maybe if the Saints or Vikings end up in LA, Newberry can play for them too–that’ll make FOUR California teams he’s played for! Anyone noticing a pattern here?
