The “lesser of two evils” quarterback competition in Chicago could last long into the summer.
“Ideally you would like to have someone in place going into that last week of the preseason,” coach Lovie Smith said Saturday. “But we’ll just let it play out. If it’s not clear by then, we’ll let it go right up until [the end of the preseason].”
The players fighting for the job are Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton. Both have held the job in the past, and both have been yanked from it.
“I think we’re both good quarterbacks,” Orton said. “We both know the system well, so I think it’ll be something going into the preseason.”
“I think I have a little bit of a chip on my shoulder striving to prove myself in this league and get myself over that hump, or whatever, to become a great quarterback in this league consistently,” Grossman said.

“or whatever” um, whatever being that your defense, not you, got your team to the SuperBowl and, when they need you to perform, you choked! Kyle Orton for starting QB of Da Bears! At least he knew how to manage the game and not get in the way of his team too much…not to mention he was a rookie when he did it!

If the Democratic primary can last into August, then so can this QB competition.
My money is on Rex. He is clearly more talented than Kyle Orton. Hopefully he just doesn’t play like an idiot. What more can he cost us? He already blew our Super Bowl, which the Bears could have won since Indianapolis played crappy that even, too.
Cheers to da Bears..

Rex is their quarterback.
I’m not one for speculation, but Rex must have something incriminating on Lovie. And not just your everyday rule-bending. It’s Chicago, the land of R Kelly. There’s no telling what’s Lovie’s into, but Rex has the goods on him.
As for Orton’s “We both know the system well,” I’d hate to see a Bears QB who DIDN’T know their system. God only knows…

Well, I’m glad you think you don’t suck, Kyle. So, you’ve got that going for you, which is nice…

Grossman has displayed over and over that his brain misfires under pressure and his throwing arm does really bad things as a result. It’s engrained in him….it’s what he is as a QB. Have the Bears not figured this out yet??? Orton simply isn’t good enough to be a starter.
I find it very difficult to understand that the Bears have not been more proactive in correcting their obvious starting QB need. Bears fans should be pissed.

Either way, with a retooled O line and an improved running game, the quarterback play should be fine. But I want Resilient Rex back from September 06. My cup is ALWAYS half full with Da Bears.
