One of the Patriots’ top off-season priorities has been getting younger at linebacker.
But they haven’t yet made a decision about whether to bring back the NFL’s oldest linebacker.
Coach Bill Belichick said after the team’s passing camp practice that it’s too early to say whether he’ll bring back Junior Seau, the 39-year-old who played in every game for New England last year.
“We are just not there yet, but we are closer to being there,” Belichick said.
There are signs that a return could be possible: Seau, who had rotator cuff surgery after the Super Bowl, underwent a physical for the Patriots. And his No. 55 jersey hasn’t been issued.
Still, considering that first-round draft pick Jerod Mayo and free agent Victor Hobson were added to the roster, there might not be any room for Seau. Two years after Seau announced his retirement only to change his mind when Belichick called, it might be time for Seau to retire for good.

Seau is probably on the back burner for now with the 80 man roster limit. He isn’t likely to sign elsewhere unless the Patriots don’t need/want him and he wants to keep playing. Presumably it’s about getting a ring now. I think they’ll sign him during training camp if there are injuries or room on the roster from other cuts. He knows the system pretty well by now, so he should get up to speed pretty quickly.

Another intelligent post by KY.Junior Seau is a great player that deserves a ring.At the same time, the Pats have drafted/FA 4 new LB’s. I think it wait & see what develops & Jr can conitinue to surf till then.

Is Seau surfing right now, do you think? Someone turn on ESPN and let me know, ‘cuz I bet they’re still talking about that. One of those stories where the sun sets at the end because it represents the end of his career. You know, stuff that represents stuff? Symbolism? Anyway it’s an interesting story that I would like to know more abouWO38TH8WI334NGI24N

“Appreciate the feedback to my post, so let’s check NFL history…1960s? Nope. 1970s? Nope. 1980s? Nope. 1990s? Nope.”
Huh? Let’s check history again. Unless, you want to prove you are a fraud and not count league championships that do not have the MARKETING TERM Super Bowl, the Bears (which is arguably the best dynasty in NFL history) lost several league championships. So they lost Super Bowls, but they just weren’t called Super Bowls back then because Lamar Hunt didn’t think up the name.
As for the Dynasty crap, I don’t care if the Pats of this decade are called a dynasty or not. The label dynasty is easily used these days anyway and cheapened the meaning. The Celtics, Yankees, and Canadiens are dynasties. Most other called dynasties haven’t achieved a fraction of what those teams have accomplished.
If the Pats win the next five Super Bowls and they aren’t considered a dynasty because of your stupid rule that no one seems to subscribe to, I think I and the rest of Patriots fans and players will learn to live with it.
But hey, if you want to keep on saying your catchphrase. More power to you!

As for Junior, the guy is a veteran who knows the Pats’ system. No need to rush to resign him. He wants to play for the Pats pretty much exclusively and is rehabbing an injury. My guess is he will be resigned right before camp and used sparingly during the season in a rotation.

I would not be surprised to see Seau back with the Patriots. From what I saw last season, Seau can still contribute significantly, though he’s no longer an every-down linebacker. Compared to Bruschi, who had an inconsistent season, Seau is holding up well.

KY Jelly makes a good point - it’s humiliating to be a New England sports fan these days what with the performance of their major sports teams.
The Patriots have been Super Bowl contenders every year since 2001 - and yet they have FAILED to win every single championship. Same with the Red Sox only winning two World Series rings since 2004. And why or why are the Celtics setting us up for the disppointment that we might not win every championship for the next 10 years?
It’d be much easier to be a fan of a team like Buffalo, or the Jets or Miami, or you name it that doesn’t torture its fans by actually prompting them to think they actually have a chance of winning in the modern sports era.
