A couple of weeks ago, former Lions receiver Charles Rogers, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 draft, was reportedly close to signing with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
G.M. Jim Popp pegged the chances of Rogers joining the team at 80-20. Hopefully, Popp didn’t place any bets on the proposition.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Rogers has yet to sign with the team, and Rogers and his agent have not been returning calls from the Alouettes.
“We’ve never booked him a flight for training camp and haven’t received his contract,” Popp said.
Maybe Rogers has cultivated an opportunity in the NFL. (It actually took me three minutes to get that sentence typed properly because my hands were shaking from laughter.)

I remember watching the 2003 draft when we were in Kuwait and all of us were betting on how we thought Rogers was going to be better than Andre Johnson. Think Matt Millen will hire me?

Why wouldn’t an NFL team be interested? They might get 3 or 4 games out of him before he breaks his clavicle again. That might be more production than the Cowboys get out of Glenn

Just mentioning Charles Rogers name tells you how tight the WR market is,and how desperate some teams are for a WR.

The only thing that Rogers contibuted to the NFL lexicon was the excellent commercial where he is (rightfully) being hazed by Ray Lewis.

I havent seen Charles make it rain . Although an injured and unproductive player , i would still take him on the Steelers , instead of Chris Henry or any other off the field problems . Hell im sure he can still make a team being a 4th wr .
