Free agent running back Kevin Jones is working out, rehabilitating his injured knee and hoping to sign with an NFL team.
And he’s using a new coach on his old team, Lions offensive coordinator Jim Colletto, as motivation.
Nicholas J. Cotsonika of the Detroit Free Press spent today watching Jones work out, and he reports that before a couple of sprints, Jones yelled out “Colletto” to fire himself up.
“Before I got let go, the weeks leading up to that, I would hear him on the Internet or on the Web site saying that, ‘We need a back who can make people miss. We need a back who can take it the distance,’ ” Jones said of Colletto. “Well, I’m on the team. I’m the starting running back. He’s basically saying you don’t need me, you need somebody else. So I’m going to show him that I am that back, that I can do those things.”
Jones said he has visited the Patriots and Titans, and he said he has received contract offers, but that none paid him as much as he thinks he’s worth.“I’m not trying to break the bank, but I’m not about to go anywhere just to go, just because there’s a team out there and I haven’t gotten picked up yet,” Jones said. “I know my worth. A lot of the teams know my worth, but they figure, ‘OK, you’re hurt right now. We’ll bring you in.’ They’re just going to lowball you. But that’s not happening with me.”
It will likely be at least another month before Jones signs anywhere; he says he has scheduled a June 28 workout and NFL coaches, scouts and executives are invited.

Too bad you got released Kevin. Kitna says the Lions are going to win 10 games this year.

Good Luck to Jones on proving the Lions wrong.
He was hurt a lot with them and didn’t produce the way Rod needs a back to produce.

I am a life-long (and long-suffering) Lions fan and I have nothing but respect and admiration for Kevin Jones. Though he had injury problems, he worked hard (even after being rushed back last season by Martz) and was a team player.
I was baffled and frustrated when I heard the Lions cut him back in March. I still don’t understand what they gained by letting him go. He was still signed to a late first-round rookie contract.
As always, the Lions are going to get what they deserve out of this. I think Jones will be a starter on another team.

He could be a nice pick-up for a team in need of RB help, whether it be in the off-season or in-season when injuries strike. I’d much rather have him on my team than Alexander.

You have to imagine him yelling “COLETTOOOOO” the way McBain yells “MENDOZAAAAAAA!!!!!”
Also, the Lions are always wrong. But more proof never hurts.

Seemingly doesn’t take much effort to prove the Lions wrong, but ya might as well keep the bar low.

well up here in daytwa i saw him play a lot… or… when he played.
not convinced keeping him would be a great idea… but cutting him and getting nothing sure isnt good.
the rumor being floated the next day was that they needed the cap money…
lions tend to have to overpay people because no one wants to come here.

kevin jones = slow, no juke moves, injury prone, cant make people miss.
Another person that was a by-product of frank beemer’s system and another overrated, overhyped, overpaid bust outta Va. Tech, similar to both vicks, me-angelo hall, jimmy williams, bryan randall, etc.

“kevin jones = slow, no juke moves, injury prone, cant make people miss.”
yeah jeezy, that’s why he has over 4000 yards from scrimmage, 27 TD’s, and had rookie of the year consideration. guy gets rushed back from injury by Martz and big surprise he gets injured again.
