Cowboys linebacker Greg Ellis has been a bit on the moody side lately. Last year, he was miffed about his contract. This time around, he’s upset with his role in offseason workouts.
Per the Dallas Morning News, Ellis has been staying away from voluntary practices this week because he hasn’t gotten enough reps in the helmets-and-shorts sessions.
The team claims that it’s merely trying to reduce wear and tear on Ellis, and to give 2007 first-rounder Anthony Spencer some additional reps.
Citing an unnamed source, the Morning News says that Ellis doesn’t trust the team’s motives.
In other words, Ellis apparently thinks that the team is trying to get Spencer ready in order to justify bouncing Ellis from the starting lineup, and/or from the team.
Ellis is under contract for two more years, at base salaries of $3.325 million in 2008 and $4.15 million in 2009.

Well, that’ll sure work in his attempt to get more reps relative to Spencer. Football players… not so bright sometimes.

So how many reps does he get by staying away from practice entirely? Whatta drama queen.

Ellis is a crybaby. A good player, but a crybaby. He’s always pissed about something. Get over it.

Another offseason and Greg Ellis isn’t happy about something. In related news, the sun rose this morning. He’s generally a good guy so Cowboys management has bent over backwards for him but it’s getting ridiculous. Let him fight for his snaps or he can end his career on the bench because I don’t think you’re losing a whole lot with Anthony Spencer in there. Talk about a mid-life crisis… I wonder if he has considered the fact that taking fewer snaps might extend his career? He’s gonna be 33 by the time the season rolls around.

This was in fact his problem last year, he was saying about how they drafted an OLB in the first round so he figured his time was up in Dallas. Ellis is actually kind of funny because he’s so worried all the time.

Why can’t these overpaid athletes (of any team, not just the Cowboys) just shut up, play ball, and rake in obscene amounts of cash? They’ve got to bitch about this and that while we fans scrape together the cash to buy tickets AND pay outrageous parking fees?

Oh what joy to be an NFL fan in the new mellennium. Thousands of dollars for personal seat licenses which only give you the RIGHT to buy tickets (what a scam), increases in local taxes so that public funds can be used to subsidize new stadiums for billionaires, eight dollars for a cup of cheap beer, five dollar hot dogs, etc. etc. etc. And every year we have to endure some vastly overpaid crybaby worrying about some insignificant detail related to why things aren’t going exactly the way he would like.
Get over it Ellis. Your football career ain’t gonna last forever and the younger players need some work too. Close your mouth, strap on the pads (or just the helmet for OTA’s), get your butt on the field and collect your ridiculous, overblown paycheck. Geeze. Some people.

When my daughters were little and they started whining this much, my wife and I would send them to their room for a time out. Quit whining, Ellis, take your reps and show the coaches you’ve got a lot left in the tank.

Here’s the real question…why do people gripe about players that gripe? better yet, why gripe and then support the sport? If you’re really sick of all the overpaid athletes bithin’ and gripin’…then you have to ask yourself why you spend one cent watching them don’t ya? Don’t get me wrong, I love football…but I’ll never ever spend a dime that I can avoid spending (jerseys, game tickets, products and merchandise, etc…) on the NFL…watch it on free TV…..sure….this is the only way the fans will ever take back the game. And it must start NOW.
