The Eagles haven’t pulled the trigger on a trade featuring Lito Sheppard and if they are going to have him around for the season, they’re trying to think of some new ways to use him.
On 950 ESPN Radio in Philadelphia today, via The 700 Level, Brian Seltzer said that “should he report to voluntary OTAs for all veterans that opens June 3rd, the Eagles are considering, experimenting by using Lito in situational offensive packages as a wide receiver.”
Seltzer said it is something Sheppard has been trying to get the team to do for a while and that it wouldn’t diminish his role in a cornerback rotation with Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown. He did run some plays as a wideout while at Florida but has only played defense in the pros.
While the Eagles do have some needs at the receiver spot, this seems like a ploy to try and make Sheppard happy in the event that they don’t deal him at some point over the summer rather than a serious attempt to upgrade that unit.

If Lito gets 5 plays at WR in the regular season I will eat my shoes. This isnt even a story and I am angry that I even read it.

What has yet to be explained is why the Eagles are trying to trade a 26 year old cornerback who is not just good, but REALLY good. Never once have i seen this explained. Someone care to try?

I’ve heard for a while that 26 has wanted this - but there is a reason that dbacks aren’t WR’s…they can’t catch the ball.
Hell - if he is still on the team (who knows at this point), why not involve him in the offense - 5 decoy patterns and a bomb a game might require defenses to deal with the possibility…
I can see it now - he catches 2 balls for 68 yrds in the opener, and then blows his knee out on a faileed reverse 15yrds in the backfield -

@Staff Sergeant Bandazewski:
I agree it seems silly that the Eagles are so eager to deal Sheppard, but the bottom line is (for whatever reason) they just paid megabucks to Asante Samuel, a very similar player, and already have a second starting-caliber corner in Sheldon Brown. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Samuel prove to be another NE “system player”, while Sheppard goes on to excel with his new team, whoever that may be.
That said, it’s very common for a team to try and trade from a position of depth to gain at a position of need.
What surprises me is the complete (nearly, anyways) lack of interest in Sheppard.
He’s one injured year removed from being a 25-year-old Pro Bowler.

Stories like this are why the Eagles will never win a championship.
The team has gone from Chad Johnson, Roy Williams, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin to freaking Lito Sheppard!
Ain’t it sad how they had TO but couldn’t control him…but, the Cowboys can.
Giggle.

There you go Donovan - the playmaker you always wanted. I knew Andy Reid wouldn’t let you down. Is it true they are also moving kicker David Akers to left tackle, too?

Lito is not the answer. They need to get one more starting receiver so they can put Kevin Curtis in the slot, then they will be fine.

Brown to Safety (instead of Considine) for 1st downs….. Lito, Brown and Samuel in the Nickel….. I still like that more than Lito +picks for anyone not named Anquan.
And yes, if Lito actually plays a down at WR this year I’m buyin cheesesteaks for everyone.

This is not NEWS!!!
Lito Sheppard is being tried out for trick plays which is not unheard of. I guess the next thing to be reported is how the cowboys used terrell owens at corner on jump ball situations. I have never in my life heard of a corner being used on offense. Thats sarcasm for anyone with out a brain.
By the way, Lito Sheppard is such a bad corner that he has posted the same numbers as asante samuel in about the same amount of playing time. Lito sheppard has been voted to the pro bowl twice. Thats once more then samuel and the same as deanglo hall. He was voted on the All pro team something deanglo hall never has been. The only reason the eagles even entertained offers for lito is because they thought they could use him to snag a top end receiver. The lions have no corners since they let dre bly loose and the cards antrell rolle has been a bust. They will not be letting go of him until next year or maybe not at all, remember the cap goes up and theres some linemen next year who will be off the books. The reason why he is upset with his contract is because the eagles have a knack at tricking(and yes i mean tricking) young players into big extensions which pay far less then what they should make if they meet expectations. When Sheppard and Brown sign there deals, i think two years ago, it was almost unheard of a corner getting 8+ mill a year now its standard. Why do you think urlacher is unhappy he saw was adalius thomas got and he is far more consistent. Another thing is that the only reason sheppard is still on the team is because no one was will to part will a top end receiver for a guy who miss 2-3 games a season. Most likely the configuration this year will be samuel at left, Sheppard at Right (he played this position his first two years) and Brown and Dawkins at safeties. Which by my opinion gives you the undeniably best secondary in football. For the skeptics 3 of 4 guys have been to the pro bowl, Brown should have gone to the Pro bowl twice but always gets overlooked(if you question him watch what he did to reggie bush and then look at his numbers) and dawkins is probably headed for canton
So do not say the guy sucks when we all know you would probably go out and buy his jersey if your team signed him
