The Eagles haven’t pulled the trigger on a trade featuring Lito Sheppard and if they are going to have him around for the season, they’re trying to think of some new ways to use him.

On 950 ESPN Radio in Philadelphia today, via The 700 Level, Brian Seltzer said that “should he report to voluntary OTAs for all veterans that opens June 3rd, the Eagles are considering, experimenting by using Lito in situational offensive packages as a wide receiver.”

Seltzer said it is something Sheppard has been trying to get the team to do for a while and that it wouldn’t diminish his role in a cornerback rotation with Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown. He did run some plays as a wideout while at Florida but has only played defense in the pros.

While the Eagles do have some needs at the receiver spot, this seems like a ploy to try and make Sheppard happy in the event that they don’t deal him at some point over the summer rather than a serious attempt to upgrade that unit.
