After signing a long-term contract extension that will likely keep him in Dallas for the rest of his career, Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman gave an interview to Mike Doocy of Fox 4 in Dallas. And in that interview, he had some critical things to say about a teammate who may not be in Dallas much longer.
When asked about safety Roy Williams, Newman started off by saying that Williams had shown talent in coverage earlier in his career, but then he veered off course and added, “He’s the same guy, I think, he just sometimes gets kind of a deer in the headlights reaction, some plays. . . . He had a bad season last year, as far as coverage.”
Later in the interview, Newman again started off defending his teammate, only to criticize him again. When asked directly whether Williams hurt the team, Newman answered, “I definitely don’t think he’s a liability.” But then he added of Williams, “He’s got to keep his weight down and work in the weight room, getting stronger.”
Although Newman didn’t sound like he was trying to rip Williams, he did sound as though he wasn’t particularly impressed with Williams. That could be a sign that if Williams doesn’t last much longer with the Cowboys, his teammates won’t be terribly disappointed.
One person Newman is impressed with is fellow cornerback Pacman Jones. Said Newman of Jones, “The guy just seems cool as heck.”
The full interview is at DC Fanatic.

I wasn’t aware the Cowboys had just signed a talent evaluator with the same name as one of their starting cornerbacks.
Seriously, the guy is impressed with Pacman but not Roy Williams, and you think that’s a sign the team is going to cut or trade Mr. Horsecollar?

I love that first sentence! That is a great sentence! Anyway, it didn’t sound like he was criticizing Roy, he just was saying what Roy needs to do.

I love it!!! Newman rips the Pro Bowl player, but loves the NFL Turd. He’ll get to follow him to strip clubs.
I can see it now…ESPN…Tony, TO, Newman and Pac all busted and in jail. The NFL story of the year….better than Mike Vick.
Pac will bust this team up….and I’ll love every second of it.
Yea you got away with TO so far, but Pac is a whole different story.
You can’t take the thug outta him….as hard as you try…when he struggles he’ll resort to the same friends and the same things…

If they don’t trade him soon, this could get ugly very fast.
He’s done in Dallas.

arzcardinals, you’re an idiot.
If you think the Cowboys are the only team with players with a criminal history or checkered past, you’re greatly mistaken. Your team, the Cards, have plenty of their own. The only difference is, NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE CARDINALS!!! The Cowboys are the Yankees of the NFL, like it or not. There will always be drama or some sort of storyline for them. Take your shots, bust all the balls you want, but you can’t take away from their success not do you have any success to talk about with your own team… especially when your QB’s sexuality and heart are being questioned.

What you guys should keep in mind is Pac was one of the most popular players in the Titans locker room. I doubt he’ll “break up the cowboys”

Does Arizona even have a team? I love all the a@@weeds from other teams who pray that someone on their team will ruin the cowboys. They should spend more time figuring out how their own team could improve and get the job done.
Says a fan of the team where their “soon to be bust” of a quarterback is supply booze and banging underage college chicks. Nice.

Pacman is “cool as heck?” I’m probably looking to into this too much, so forgive me, but it sometimes feels like certain NFL players are impressed with these thugs that tarnish the league. It’s like a high school mentality, when the real bad kids are considered “cool.” That street cred means a lot to them despite being a professional in the NFL. Players often sound obsessed with having each others back no matter what anyone does.
It was Vince Young the other day that puzzled me with a simualr statement. He mentioned how he wants to be a role model, but then references inspiration from his man Mike Vick and Lil Wayne, 2 guys who are the furthest thing from Role Models. I have heard Lil Wayne, and I don’t see how playing QB and becoming a role model ties into someone who raps about smoking acres or weed and calls himself “The P**sy Monster.” Lil Wayne’s tour bus was raided recently and they found enough weed, coke and ecstacy to kill a small country. He is a good rapper, but a baaaaaaaaad man. Mike Vick is incarsarated for something that is absolutely cruel and disturbing and is confirmed to be a complete moron. Why even bring those names up?
Like I said, I’m probably looking into it too much. Just think it’s bad PR for these players and the league when they say things like this. It reveals how they judge character.

If the Cowboys are smart they are shopping this guy hard core right now.
First team I would call is the Bengals. Chad Johnson wants out, they need defensive help everywhere…AND the Cowboys need another WR. chad Johnson and TO would be a very dangerous combo. I also think Roy Williams would fit in well with the Bengals.
The other teams I see taking a bit on Roy Williams would probably be the Panthers, Packers, Lions, or possibly the Browns.
Roy Williams is also big enough to play at the OLB spot on a team. Cato June is very effective as a LB in limited coverage in the Tampa 2 system and he only weighs around 220lbs. Roy weighs damn near 235lbs. he could easily drop down and play a LB.
If I were a defensive coordinator that is what I would do with him.

@ Super Florio says:
“Roy Williams WAS a liability last year. Most teams passed all over Dallas.”
Yeah, right. Cowboys had the 4th best pass D in the NFC last year at 213 yards per game. Only one NFC team gave up fewer 20 yard pass plays. The Bucs. All this and they had both starting corners playing at the same time for only a few games.

Newman DID NOT say, ““He’s got to keep his weight down and work in the weight room, getting stronger.”
What he said was, “He just realizes what he has to work on. He’s been trying to … stay … keep his weight down and work with the weight room … in the weight room, getting stronger. He knows what he has to do.”
Here’s what was said –
Mike Doocy: “You’ve been a teammate of Roy Williams for a long time right now, and you know it’s somewhat fashionable to take shots at Roy. His coverage skills obviously are shaky at times. Do you see .. what do you see is his future with this football team and are you worried about Roy Williams in any way right now in terms of his confidence or how he feels he belongs on this football team?”
Newman: “I don’t .. you know, the funny thing is Roy had, coming into his rookie year, I think he had five picks and he showed that he could cover. I mean, he’s the same guy, I think he just sometimes gets kind of a deer-in-the-headlights type of reaction to some plays, just gets caught. You know, not everybody’s going to have a perfect season. He had a bad season last year as far as coverage, but I think he’s doing the things he needs to do to get back on track.”
Mike Doocy: “Do you think he is a liability back there, or do you think he can be back into a position where he is a strength for that secondary?”
Newman: “Nah, I definitely don’t think he’s a liability. I mean, everybody’s got something to work on. You can never be at a point where you can feel comfortable with what you’re going on the football field. He just realizes what he has to work on. He’s been trying to … stay … keep his weight down and work with the weight room … in the weight room, getting stronger. He knows what he has to do.”

4168 days since the Cowboys won a playoff game. And now they are being “blowed up” from the inside out. No chance of that record coming to an end anytime soon.
