The pipeline taking washed-up NFL receivers to Canada continues to flow.
In recent weeks, first-round flame-outs David Boston and Charles Rogers have tried to resurrect their football careers with a league that soon will be made even less relevant when the Buffalo Bills begin playing games in Toronto. Now, a second-round bust is getting in on the act.
Former NFL receiver Bethel Johnson is joining the Toronto Argonauts.
Johnson, touted as a “two-time Super Bowl Champion” in the article announcing the move, really didn’t add much to either of the two championship seasons he spent with the Patriots. Johnson was traded to the Saints in 2006, signed with the Vikings in 2006 after being cut by the Saints, and bounced between the Eagles and the Texans in the 2007 before being cut by Houston prior to the season.
“Bethel Johnson is a speedy and athletic ‘deep threat’ receiver who is also an accomplished return man,” Toronto G.M. Greg Mohns said. “He should give us great depth, and we expect him to come in and challenge for a starting position. It was a five-month recruitment process and we are thrilled to have him as a part of the Argos family.”
Said Johnson: “I’m excited to get back on the field again and about the great opportunity I have ahead of me with the Argos. Training camp isn’t about playing around; you come into camp with the ultimate goal of winning a championship. I’m looking forward to getting on the field and winning again.”

1st off the cfl is shit, they have dumb rules and it does not make the the cfl better, if i want a fast pace game i’ll watch arena which is a much faster paced. Also the usfl was better, it was the closest competiton the NFL has ever had, there isnt any great players coming form the cfl. There was Jim Kelly and John Elway that were in the CFL both hall of famers also heisman trophy winners mike rozier and hershel walker went there out of college by choice. Flutie went to the CFL after going to the bears then after dominating the CFL he goes to the bills to become an ok QB. He didnt stay in the CFL becuase is was boring for him. The CFL is a joke and it will become a even lower when a team moves to canada.

im from canada, and the cfl is pure garbage, its overrated,
if its so great, how come no americans dream of playing there
its a last resort league for a player until he ends
up on the street. The CFL is a joke, they cant afford drug
testing, there was an article a few weeks ago about a stadium boom
but let’s face it, the cfl aint getting any new stadiums
its a ghetto league, they cant afford an all-star game,
cant even come up with their own version of madden, they have
a powerless commissioner, they had this dude trevis smith
bang all these chicks and charged with assault, yet the commish allowed him to play. Even Canadians know the CFL is garbage,
the CFL only gets their main audience from prairie hillbillies
and the 3rd generation redneck canadians.

Lighten Up CANADA!
P.F.T. and Florio is all about humor as well as information at the speed of light. Florio kills me every morning. This site is the first site I log onto every morning.
Lighten up Canada. I love reading “Florio The Big Dog.”
Although, in this case I think Florio owes apology to Canadian Football fans.
BClion99 made a brilliant, passionate, post about his/her passion for the game. I kind of think BClion99 ripped PFT a new one in this response.
I think THIS GUY SAY’S IT ALL

Nice post by bclion999 - the CFL and NFL aren’t just two different leagues - they might as well be two different sports and the CFL has its own brand of fast paced exciting football that requires a different skill set for many players.
In general one can definitely say that the more skilled players remain in the NFL as that’s where the most money is - but there have been plenty of examples guys who didn’t do well in the NFL doing great in the CFL and doubtless we could find plenty of guys in the NFL who couldn’t keep up with the pace of the CFL.
That’s not a knock on any of the players - different skills are more and less valuable in the two separate leagues. Bottom line - there’s just no need to degenerate the CFL and doing so illustrates an ignorance of the beauty of both games.”
GOD BLESS OUR CANADIAN BROTHERS.
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE MR. FLORIO POST AN APPOLOGY TO CANADA ON THIS SITE.
I fact I demand it, like Hillary Clinton demands stuff all of the time.

He could be good, I’m not really sure what the rules are up there… but as long as you don’t have to actually catch the ball- he’s a top 5 WR in the league.

I don’t know what all this fighting is aboot…
The CFL isn’t all that bad, but just because they have rules that promote higher scoring games doesn’t really make it better than the NFL. I think the NFL does enought to get the points up due to the bogus pass interference calls as well as the very questionable hits on the QB’s, but a true football fan should appreciate a great defensive effort as well as a high scoring game. Just as long as the play isn’t sloppy…
However, it’s a decent option when the NFL is in the offseason. Or do they play simultaneously?
No one is wrong though on either side of this argument as if the Canadians love that version then what’s wrong with that? Just as long as they don’t start comparing Soccer to Football…

Bethel made exactly 3 plays in his time in NE. (1) Kick return for touchdown vs. Indy during the regular season (2) Long bomb diving catch for a first down to seal a win vs. Seattle during the regular season (3) touchdown catch early in a freezing cold home playoff game vs. the Titans.
That was IT! I also remember reading in the paper about him and I think Patrick Pass playing baseball with towels in the locker room and Willie McGinest ripped the towel out of his hands and told him to “spend more time in your playbook.”

“So the CFL is better, it’s just that they don’t know how to market it? Last I checked there are only eight teams in the “league”.”
Canada has roughly 10% of the population of the USA . Based on that you must believe the CFL should only have 3 teams. Well they have more than double that amount. Maybe the NFL should expand to another 10 teams or so, or at least start playing an even 17 game schedule? Sounds pretty smart? Won’t be any disputes then when some team misses playoffs because another team had an easier extra game than them.

The CFL used to have more teams. What happened, did Canada lose a bunch of people? Canadians are pretty stupid, apparently. Since when is 17 “even”, anyway?
