The Dolphins could soon be opening talks with LB Channing Crowder about a contract extension; he’s due to become an unrestricted free agent in 2009.
Before Israel Gutierrez of the Miami Herald applauds the Cowboys for the manner in which the final days of Emmitt Smith’s tenure were handled, Gutierrez might want to reflect on how Troy Aikman was treated.
Once the Pats showed interest in CB Fernando Bryant, other teams decided to chase him, too.
Here are some possible slogans for the 2008 Bengals. (Might we suggest to the author of the piece: “LAME”.)
Brown quarterbacks coach Rip Scherer is trying to persuade QB Brady Quinn that he’ll start this year only if Derek Anderson gets hurt or flops.
Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says that, as to Spygate, it’s time to move on.
Titans QB Vince Young says that first-round rookie RB Chris Johnson even jogs fast.
Chiefs DE Johnny Dingle is hoping to show the Chiefs that size doesn’t matter.
Before Michael Klitzing of the North County Times speaks out against the possibility of expanding the regular season to 17 games, he should do a little research as to the question of whether it would mean nine home games for half the teams.
There’s a battle brewing at the center position in St. Louis.
Here’s a closer look at the pissing match between the Bucs and QB Jeff Garcia.
Could Saints WR Robert Meachem push Devery Henderson for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart?
Saints LB Jonathan Vilma says that figuring out the 3-4 defense with the Jets was like learning how to ride a unicycle.
Are the Vikings finally ready to make a run for the postseason?
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers spent six days working out with U.S. troops in Alaska.
Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune thinks the Packers are taking a huge risk by going forward with three quarterbacks who have never started an NFL game.
Should the Bears get rid of RB Cedric Benson?
Broncos RB Selvin Young thinks he can rush for 2,000 yards. (For his career?)

Selvin Young thinks he can run for 2,000 yards and Ray Edwards getting more than 22.5 sacks? What’s next, John Beck saying he’s gonna shatter Tom Brady’s 50 TD passes?

If Selvin Young rushes for 2000 yards this year, I think our team will win 14 games

I wouldn’t worry too much, Brady Q. Anderson is overrated, and you’ll be the starter before long.

Can anyone tell me the last time Jay Mariotti wrote a positive column about any professional athlete. I’d be willing to bet he was the kid in high school who got a ton of wedgies from all the jocks. Hence his preconceived notions that all pros are a**holes.
I still believe that Benson was arrested simply because he was guilty of BWB (boating while black) and the fact that the boat was full of black men with a bunch of WHITE WOMENS on board. And then that two faced pen!s, Jerry Angelo, had the sack to say he was disappointed by the fact that Cedric put himself in a position to be a victim. When this drama finally comes to its conclusion, I hope Benson is acquitted of all charges. And hopefully, those boatcops will have some ’splainin to do.

Jay Mariotti uses wedgies as foreplay would be my guess.
And Selvin goes for 2000? Are we talking Madden? Not sure he even gets it there. My bet for Denver RB’s is Hall, not Young or Henry.

Wasn’t Seldon Young in those boy toy pics with Vince Young a few weeks ago?
~~~~~~~~~~
“Once the Pats showed interest in CB Fernando Bryant, other teams decided to chase him, too.”
I call BS on that one. He signed a one year contract. He didn’t name any team that supposedly had interest. If other teams were interested, then he would have got some signing money and a longer term deal. Instead, his one year deal was for the vet minimum of $776,000 with a $20,000 signing bonus. Twenty grand doesn’t suggest he even had an Arena League team sniffing around his agent.
Aikman could have extended his Cowboys career by waiving the $7 million bonus he was scheduled to get. He refused, and the rest is history.
I seem to recall a sixth round pick by the name of Terrell Davis that rushed for 2,000 yards in a single season and won 2 SuperBowls back to back…
Not saying Selvin Young can duplicate what T.D. did but don’t write him off just because he’s unknown.
PFT always has some smart ass remark about the Broncos. F U PFT!
A few things. What were the Dallas Cowboy supposed to do with Troy Aikman’s concussions, age, and situation? He was already 34, and they would have owed him a craaaaaaazy amount of money when he wasn’t going to be what he used to be. He was still set for life (many lives) with what he earned, and because of the astounding team around him, Aikman was able to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. It’s interesting that there’s an attempt to give him sympathy. The only thing Aikman deserves sympathy for is if there are future side effects from all those concussions he received. Also, I don’t want to know what Aikman’s career would have been like had he not had that offensive line, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin. (I’m sure he would have been okay, but not a quarterback that can transcend any situation, like Dan Marino.)
And not to upset people who are closed minded, but look at Aikman’s numbers. 165 touchdowns, 141 interceptions; 32,942 passing yards; and 81.6 QB rating.
Steve McNair’s numbers. 174 touchdowns, 119 interceptions. That would be more touchdowns and less interceptions, not counting his plethora of rushing touchdowns. 31,304 passing yards. 82.8 quarterback rating. All of this with much, much, much, much, much less than what was ever around Troy Aikman.
Is that the difference between a first-ballot Hall of Famer and someone who shan’t make it in? Please. And Aikman rightfully won three of those Super Bowls … but I mean plug McNair into that situation, and I have no doubt that similar results occur Super Bowl wise, except McNair’s numbers turn out more impressive than they already are.
And Skip Bayless points this out regarding Aikman:
Other things, we shouldn’t get rid of Cedric Benson just yet. Let’s see if Matt Forte can beat him out on his own. And I wouldn’t doubt that any Denver Broncos running back can do very well. Selvin Young shows flashes of brilliance, and we’ll see what he does.
And if he really did do it? Or maybe you don’t care about that?
Austin is one of the most liberal cities in America. It wasn’t exactly Buford T. Pusser arresting him for BWB. If you like, I can rewrite this is one syllable words.
“Broncos RB Selvin Young thinks he can rush for 2,000 yards.”
So does Cedric Benson, but he will need another Benson-like year to reach that milestone - IN 4 YEARS. Not a bad return on an investment of $20 million so far…(wink, wink).
how does any bears columnist write a story about the packers quarterback situation not being smart. i think he should be more worried about his qb situation. i would take rodgers and brohm over any qb thats been in chicago in the last 6 years, even if they were rookies. its a joke.
Vox, I often think lots of what Skip has to say on TV is a waste of time and exaggerated purely because of television ratings … but his article regarding Troy Aikman’s luck made a whole of of sense. 1st ballot Hall of Famer before the age of 40! His numbers are not superior to Steve McNair’s whatsoever, yet there is serious talk that McNair will not get close to a whiff of the Hall of Fame.
(Yes, Aikman won three Super Bowls. He deserves credit. But perhaps, as Bayless correctly pointed out, luck was involved…)
