"I love all the cowboys apologists saying Patrick Crayton is a legit No. 2 — how quickly they forget about the playoffs and his cr@p performances — stone hands, quits on routes and is horrible under pressure."

He's not the first guy to not play well in the playoffs. One bad game and you think the guy sucks. He caught 50 for 7 TDs last year so I'm pretty sure he can at least be a serviceable #2 guy. 50 for 7 is pretty good on a team that features TO and Jason Witten, and 7 TDs is more than any other NFCE team's WRs scored, save Burress.

"Bobblehead has to prove he can be a premier CB before even thinking about WR."

Eh, not really. If he's reinstated he's not gonna be higher than the nickel corner and he may end up being the 4th guy. He's gonna play special teams, mostly. People shouldn't get so worked up by a comment like "we may play him a little on offense". They "may" have him selling popcorn in the stands, too.

@ Wrathchild says:

"But they probably believed he would be reinstated based on the two reasons I stated in my post. "

I figure they had already talked to Goodell about it and got some private assurances. And why shouldn't an owner hold influence over the commish anyway? He does work for the owners, after all. They influence him all the time. Some owners influence the commish more than others, that's why they're called "influential". Like him or not, Jerry Jones carries a lot of weight with other owners. AND HE SHOULD. He's worked his butt off to put a crapload of money in their pockets. But as far as Adam Jones is concerned, it's just time to get the guy back on the field. If he doesn't screw up again, he'll be reinstated before training camp because it's the right thing to do. I don't give a crap about how many times he was arrested, he's not the worst guy in the NFL, maybe not even the worst guy the Titans had. Haynesworth may have tried to kill a man during a game, and he surely intended to at least maim Andre Gurode and possibly end his career when he ripped the helmet off of his head and stomped and slashed at his face with 3/4 inch metal cleats. The Nashville cops and DA's office were practically begging Gurode to press charges and Haynesworth is lucky that he didn't because Haynesworth would still be in jail and it would have ended his career. Then factor in the way he approached the refs in a threatening manner after he was flagged. Fisher had to get in his face to get him to leave the field. 5 game suspension.

"Vox, I thought Pacman had some additional run-ins with the law since his suspension that the commish would be taking into consideration. Where did you get the info that he will be reinstated unless he screws up between now and training camp?"

Common sense. I don't know where people get the notion that Goodell is in the "keeping players from playing" business. He's even come out and said that's not his job. If he doesn't screw up again, Adam Jones is back in before training camp. Make bank on it. Reinstating him is good for the NFL if for no other reason than people want to see him play. Where's the justification in keeping Jones out when the NFL already has a convicted killer on it's rosters?

I love all the cowboys apologists saying Patrick Crayton is a legit No. 2 -- how quickly they forget about the playoffs and his cr@p performances -- stone hands, quits on routes and is horrible under pressure.

Mark my words, the Cowboys will have the biggest drop in the NFC East and will finish no better than 3rd in the division.

Lets get one thing straight. There was and only will be One Deion Sanders. Bobblehead has to prove he can be a premier CB before even thinking about WR. Maybe use him on an end around or quick screen but not downfield routes.

Serious question, and something I was talking to a co-worker about this morning. If Pacman is reinstated, how long will it take to get back to game speed? He's been out for awhile.

Vox, I thought Pacman had some additional run-ins with the law since his suspension that the commish would be taking into consideration. Where did you get the info that he will be reinstated unless he screws up between now and training camp?

"Florio hit the point that I thought of as soon as I read the first two lines of this story. How arrogant are the cowboys to start planning on how they’ll be using a guy when he isn’t even allowed to play in the league yet, and technically may not ever be able to do so if the commish says no."

The Cowboys would never have made the trade if they didn't think that he'd be reinstated. What's so wrong with them planning as if he'll be reinstated? As injury prone as he is, Donovan McNabb may step off a curb and strain his vag again tomorrow, but don't you think that the Eagles are planning to have him on the field in '08 anyway?

I remember when Deion played offense, but I don't remember it being a "slipsliding offense". He had a 47 yard reception in Super Bowl 30 after rushing for a 21 yard TD against the Eagles. Only guy in NFL history to catch a pass AND snag an INT in the Super Bowl. 36 catches for 475 yards in '96. Not sure that the O was slipping all that much that season. Despite ranking 25th in O yardage, they won the division.

"I mean, the best thing for Goodell to do is ban Pacman for life. That’s stripping Dallas of a draft pick in essence because they wanted to take on a guy who didn’t just have previous legal troubles, he had current legal troubles."

If Pacman doesn't get reinstated at some point this season they get the Titans 2009 4th round draft pick. If that pick were to be the 126th overall pick or higher, that would be a net trade UP in the 4th round. Also, Pacman Jones has no current legal troubles. He's not under indictment for any crime. He's gonna be reinstated unless he screws up between now and training camp.

This makes no sense. I would think that the Cowboys would make sure that Pacman gets on track playing in the NFL in one position, before deciding to have him play multiple positions.

Florio hit the point that I thought of as soon as I read the first two lines of this story. How arrogant are the cowboys to start planning on how they'll be using a guy when he isn't even allowed to play in the league yet, and technically may not ever be able to do so if the commish says no.

Of course, they are thinking that since they are: #1. The cowboys and #2. They have the influence of Jerry Jones, they'll get whatever they want and influence the commish in whatever way they want.

kellyb9 - Funny, that's not what Goodell said in his news conference last week. BB has maintained all along that he misinterpreted a rule that was written clear as day. Goodell has publicly stated he didn't accept that as an excuse. Your options are either:

1. Belichick lied about why he broke the rule

2. The smartest coach in the NFL misinterpreted a rule that was written clearly and concisely that was distributed right before he broke said rule.

Tell me which is more likely.

Check the Turd Watch standings Dallas haters. They have zero points. They also had zero points all of last year. Jerry Jones' hiring of Calvin Hill as a player consultant was the first of its kind and it has resulted in an environment were previously-troubled athletes can shine.

Say what you want to about Jerry Jones. But remember that he is paying for the majority of his new stadium unlike most owners. He never threatened to move the franchise out of the metro area. And he bought the team in 1989 with his own hard-earned money (unlike most of the current owners who inherited daddy's $$). Since that time the franchise has risen to be worth $1.5 billion.

Is PacMan Jones a turd? Yes. Can he be changed? Who knows, but if the Cowboys can't get the best out of him...nobody can.

If Terry Glenn can't go and the Cowboys don't think one of their young guys is ready to step up then Jerry will just go out and make a trade. The Cowboys are loaded for a Superbowl run and Jerry will do whatever it takes to make that happen.

They don't "need" Pacman to play on offense, that's just Florio trying to milk the Pacman story for page views as usual.

I have to agree with RobocopFor and gzbuffalo....Crayton is no slouch. I had both T.O. and Crayton on my fantasy team last year and Crayton was a good receiver. Sure, he disappeared at times, but what #2 doesn't? Especially when your other guy is Owens. I'd take him anyday over Pacman.

Pacman is the definately a clear-cut "number two" if there ever was one. But as a receiver, who knows.

I agree with gzbuffalo; no number 2 seems a bit of an odd statement. Crayton was good and any rookie WR has to be better than a CB playing a part time role at WR. I also seriously doubt defenses are going to solo T.O. just because Pacman is on the field, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be concerned with him on offense.

As far as I understand, Pacman had a 1 year ban for failing to report incidents with the law to his team. It doesn't seem likely he'll get instantly reinstated in the year away from football that saw him have additional run-ins with the law.

I mean, the best thing for Goodell to do is ban Pacman for life. That's stripping Dallas of a draft pick in essence because they wanted to take on a guy who didn't just have previous legal troubles, he had current legal troubles.

Could they be doing this to boost Pacman's image, making him easier to reinstate??
