The Cowboys haven’t had a player who goes both ways (not that they know of . . . and not that there’s anything wrong with it) since contact-shy cornerback Deion Sanders played some wideout in the 1990s.

That might change, if/when/if cornerback Pacman Jones ever gets reinstated.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, owner Jerry Jones says that Pacman might end up taking snaps at receiver.

“I think potentially we could get some of those offensive plays that Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones ran over at Tennessee — he had 15, 20 of them, got in the slot,” Jerry Jones said.

The move apparently would arise from necessity, not luxury.  The Cowboys won’t have a clear-cut No. 2 receiver, if Terry Glenn’s knees won’t let him play at the level he has enjoyed for most of his 12-year career.  Using Pacman from time to time would help draw attention away from Terrell Owens.

That said, we think that the Cowboys should worry more about getting Pacman reinstated than making plans for using him.  We’re still troubled by the tale of the hit that Jones now claims he inadvertently ordered in February 2007, and we’re convinced that Pacman didn’t tell Commissioner Roger Goodell the same story in New York that Jones would later tell police in Vegas of the guy who interpreted Pacman’s “whatever” remark as a request to open fire, which then was followed by a $15,000 charge that Jones inexplicably paid.

Lying to the Commissioner is a major no-no.  Coupled with two no-contest pleas entered by Pacman since his one-year suspension was imposed, we think there’s a good chance that Jones won’t be permitted to play in part or all of the 2008 season — if it turns out that Jones opted not to be candid with Goodell.
