A day after Browns cornerback Daven Holly suffered what was described as a “serious” knee injury, Holly has been waived, and eventually will be placed on injured reserve.
Before being waived, Holly signed his one-year restricted free agent tender. After he clears waivers, he’ll land on the team’s injured reserve list, which will entitle him to his full salary for the 2008 season.
Because he has been waived, he’ll likely be eligible to sign with any team after the 2008 season. But his 2009 market value disappeared along the ligament(s) in his knee.

As a Pittsburgher, I don’t have a chance to say this very ofter - if ever (and for good reason), but…
I’m proud of the Browns. They could have cleaned out his locker before he got out of the trainer’s office, but they signed him to a contract so he’d get paid this year.
It’s not like this guy has made millions in his career, but i’m sure it means a lot to him. More teams should show a little compassion
And, being from Pittsburgh, it actually hurts to say something nice about Cleveland. I’m sure I won’t have to do it again fo a long, long time.

Sucks for him. He played pretty well last year and would have gotten more playing time this year.

Porterhouse, it does if you’re clueless about the NFL.
Their two starting CBs are still on the team, so it doesn’t really matter if the Browns still had Holly or Bodden. The Browns just signed Terry Cousin who can fill in for Holly with little to no talent dropoff. So basically they are no worse off at the CB position than they have been for months.

PFT always demonstrates an incredible amount of tact when talking about career-ending injuries. I understand that this article reveals some of the injustice of non-guaranteed contract. However, there is a human being whose dream/reality might have just been cut short.

DM: I think, during your first game against the Cowboys, that they are going to throw on you all day. Enjoy.

why dont people realize he wasnt a starting DB…we still have our corners and they are both young but capable.
holly was a nickel back guy and will be replaced, although im happy that he will be getting some money for this season
he is a good guy but in no means irreplaceable
