Philadelphia Eagles V.P. of player personnel Jason Licht has been fired, but the team hasn’t announced the move.
According to Mark Eckel of the Trenton Times, coach Andy Reid told Licht to “start looking for another job” before the draft, and was informed that he’s done after the draft.
Licht, 37, had been hand-picked by G.M. Tom Heckert to join the team and thereafter to become the V.P. of player personnel, but the pair reportedly had a falling out last season.
Regarded as a rising star in league circles, Licht likely will find work elsewhere. Per Eckel, Licht has been linked to the director of pro scouting position in Arizona.
The strange part about this one is that the Eagles haven’t technically fired him; he’s still listed as the No. 3 man on the football operations totem pole. As we understand it, however, he’s not working. Perhaps the team had hoped to keep the move quiet so that Licht would be in a better position to find another job, which then would offset the amount of Licht’s buyout.
It’s generally believed that it’s easier to get a job while having a job, and there’s clearly a different feel regarding Licht if he’s merely looking for other opportunities because he’s interested in making a move than if he’s searching for a new gig because he’s been booted from his current one.
We’re told that Licht is under contract for one more year with the Eagles.
Though the identity of Licht’s replacement is unknown, some have speculated that the move underscores the ascension of V.P. of football administration Howie Roseman, a 33-year-old cap-and-contracts guy who is primarily responsible for negotiating player deals.

He probably kept suggesting that a receiver would help. Andy Reid HATES that.

That’s kind of out of character for the Eagles to sandbag someone before they have a new job. Isn’t that right, Lito Sheppard?

I actually heard he was part of package deal with Lito for a WR (you know its bad when you are an eagles fan and you bust on the team). I also agree Reid and his ego not being told he NEEDS BETTER WRS!!!!

What did I say just yesterday? The Eagles are notorious nickel-and-dimers.

If none of you understand that when Reid speaks to the media and says that the WR’s are fine its just typical coach speak please stop watching football and concentrating on breathing because I doubt you have the brain capacity to handle that task in addition to anything else.
The team’s actions going after every top WR possibly available speak much louder than his words. The fact that none of these WRs were traded means that they were never available not that the Eagles failed to get one or thought they didn’t actually need improvement.
And how can you complain about this yahmpy. They tried to keep it quiet so he could get a new job. Would your job do the same thing? Lito has a job last time I checked and it was his own unreasonable demands that put him in this position and why they couldn’t find a trading partner. So he’s staying with the team and that’s it. Learn to deal with it.

Vox Veritas “nickels and dimers” I suggest you read about Asante Samuel’s contract. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3271255
Players in Philadelphia get their money’s worth based on their playing ability. The NFL is a business and at some point the organization has to have people around that are willing to stand up to players and their agents that IMO all get overpaid anyway.
