After Browns president John Collins took a run at running G.M. Phil Savage out of town, Browns president John Collins soon wasn’t Browns president.
The job has now been filled by Mike Keenan (of whom we’ve never heard unless he also coaches hockey).
Presumably to avoid the same problems that resulted in friction between Collins and Savage, Savage won’t report to Keenan. Instead, Savage will run the football operation and Keenan will run the non-football aspects of the business.
“Mike is deserving of this appointment,” Savage said. “He has worked extremely hard in strengthening the Browns business operations and has been a valuable resource in dealing with the league office. We have an excellent working relationship and both of us, along with Romeo [Crennel], are committed to helping this organization reach its full potential and win as many games as possible in the future.”
It all sounds good unless and until the on-field product falls apart and the head of the non-football operation begins to make facially innocuous comments to owner Randy Lerner about the struggles in the wins/losses department. Of course, that has never happened in any NFL city.

Great for the Brownies and Mike Keenen. He can keep the 2008-2009 Lombardi Trophy that the media has already given them on his new presidential desk.

Hey Florio…I did your homework for you:
One of John Collins’ last acts with the Browns was to hire Keenan as chief financial officer because he felt Savage needed more help with the financial implications of player contracts.
After Collins departed, Savage and Keenan developed a strong working relationship and Keenan started representing owner Randy Lerner on league affairs.
Prior to joining the Browns, Keenan worked in the NFL Management Council on labor operations and financial matters involving the salary cap and collective bargaining agreement.
Sorry you haven’t heard of him. I really hadn’t either. Luckily, with a little bit of research (imagine that), I found out something.

The Clowns are like Barak Hussein Obama. Anointed by the media, coronated by the unintelligent, and worshiped by the great unwashed. The problem the Clowns face is that they still haven’t played a game. They still have a mediocre linebacking corps, they still have no defensive backfield, and their running back has 9000 yards of tread on his body. Talk to me when they do something like win an AFC North title, a playoff game or two, and maybe even a Superbowl. Until then, the are still the Clowns, and they are still from Cleveland, and they still can’t beat the Steelers, and they still have to take sloppy seconds from the Ravens.
