Three years ago, concerns regarding a contract that provided receiver Terrell Owens with no security beyond the current season created a major distraction in Philadelphia.
This time around, Owens again is in a situation where he has no safety net beyond this year. But he’s fine with that.
“Not a problem,” Owens said Wednesday. “Honestly, I don’t really feel like it’s hanging over my head. I just don’t really think about it. I haven’t thought about it until somebody brought it up.
“I’m not naive to the point of not realizing what type of contract that I signed. It was a three-year deal and I know I’m in my third year. It’s a no-brainer. I know what’s going on.”
What’s going on is that Owens will be an unrestricted free agent in 2009. If he has a big year, there will be a demand for his services in 2009. Sure, he’ll be 35 in December, but the guy can still bring it, and he’ll likely dredge up a few more million reasons to live within the next year of his life.

His P.R. woman … she was kind of hot.
You mention his age, even he can’t keep this up for much longer. This may be his last great season, especially if he gets paid well after it.

I want to know when I fell into the wormhole and landed in Bizarro World. This does not sound like the TO from San Fran and Philly, maybe the attempted suicide (alledged) was good for him.

No guarantees beyond the current season when he was in Philly? BS! He was one year into his contract still had multiple years left with nothing in the franchises past to suggest that they would cut ties with him. He was just a mental case that needed better meds and now he’s got them apparently.

I can’t believe She’relle Owens is finally acting like a grown man. He is 35 but is in better shape than most 30 year olds in this league. Definitely has 3 years left at as an elite receiver because he is a big, physical route runner with a hall of fame caliber work and conditioning ethic.

Are you kidding? Everybody knows that the Eagles are cutthroat nickel-and-dimers. All they had to do was guarantee a roster bonus that TO was supposed to get. For some reason, they refused to. That gave the impression that they didn’t intend to pay it. The rest is history. You’re seeing a difference NOW because the Cowboys gave him a straight-up contract with hard dollars attached. They gave him respect, and he’s giving it back. The guy’s got eyes, he sees how Jerry Jones takes care of his performers. Look at the contracts that Newman and Barber got. And he saw how the Eagles do it, too.

Wingnut, you’re an idiot and put the “nut” in your name.
You were one of the many people who said TO would be a cancer in the Dallas locker room and wouldn’t last on this team either.
Whether they admit it or not, most players would love to play in Dallas. The history, an owner who wants nothing more than to win and will do whatever it takes to so so, great fans across the entire country, hot cheerleaders, 5 world championships, etc… even Zach Thomas said it recently, “Being here in Dallas is awesome… the Star on the helmet… it hasn’t sunk in yet and I can’t believe it… but it’s great, I love it.”
Stop being a hater and accept the fact that if TO was on your team you would be saying the complete opposite of the things you rant about here.

People, stop hating on this man because he is doing so well now. Mr. Wingnut, stop coming across as a bitter eagle fan because if Donavan Mcnabb stop chocking in big games, your team would’ve have a couple of rings by now.

I must admit I was skeptical about TO in Dallas. But he has done well there, and anyone who says that Dallas is better of without him must be watching the CFL or Arena football and not the NFL.

Have you ever listened to TO’s is sideline rants? “Who can make a play I can” As he drops the ball on the next play. TO is another Shockey/Barber. TO lives the life of a musician,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me.
I’m not being a hater, I call it how I see it.
You are right about one thing Dallas does have the best Cheerleaders.

I love the Eagles fans on here. Every year I have to endure these eagle fans saying that this is the year that the Eagles will go all the way and it never happens. I live near Philly and I can hardly go anywhere with another teams shirt on or with another teams logo on my car without some gorilla yelling at me or vandalizing my car. They complain about the Cowboys and Giants because the only way they will win anything is if one of these teams screws up. They cannot win it themselves.

TO may be nuts (and he is)…but who cares? All that matters is whether he makes your team better. He made the Eagles WAY BETTER (until he turned on them). He makes the Cowboys way better. And unless he turns on them for some reason, he’s an ASSet.
Regarding the contract with Philly, TO should not have signed it if he felt it “disrespected” him. Philly respected him by uncharacteristically going out and trading for the big name receiver. They did that because they expected him to be an excellent receiver and make the team better…not because they thought he would suck.
So when he turned out to be an excellent receiver and made the team better, it was not a surprise…and the Eagles did not feel like they should re-negotiate his 7 year contract after one year for doing what they hired him to do.
Too bad…he was just what the Eagles needed (and still need)…minus the looney toons.

“the Eagles did not feel like they should re-negotiate his 7 year contract after one year for doing what they hired him to do.”
TO found out how important he was when the “company man” said that they could win without him. Now I think it’s a bit further from “A” to “B” that it would be for ME or YOU to get upset about something like that, but you can’t tell me that this doesn’t fit the known profile of a guy with TO’s history. All they had to do was guarantee the $7.5 million roster bonus that he was due the next March. Or they could have negotiated an entirely new contract, since TO had been a good boy and, as you say, was an excellent WR for the Eagles. They could have done either because either would have made him happier than Britney Spears in a penis tree, but they refused to do either. You don’t have to have TO’s history to realize that that gives the impression that they didn’t intend to actually pay that bonus. Yeah, TO shouldn’t have signed it in the first place and if I remember correctly he fired his agent for giving him bad advice… but do you think that telling him “you shouldn’t have signed it” would make him say “you’re right, my bad” and forget about the whole thing?
Guarantee that bonus and TO’s a happy little Eagle right now. If the Eagles didn’t know that it’s useless to play hardball with a guy like that before, they do now. You might as well cut him, and that’s exactly what the Cowboys would have done/will do if he starts bellyaching. Jerry Jones has very rarely played hardball with players. He tried it with Emmitt in ‘93 and it didn’t work out very well, but he fixed that situation really fast by giving the guy what he deserved. Make ‘em happy, be straight with ‘em if you have good reasons to not do what they want and convince ‘em that it’s the right thing to do, or get rid of ‘em because there’s no sense keeping a guy in a situation that he doesn’t want to be in. Counter-productive, big time.

“…the “company man” said that they could win without him.”
What do you expect any QB to say when one of his receivers has a broken leg? “Oh, we’re up shits creek now.” “No way we’re gonna win without him because our other receivers suck.” “I guess the season is over now and we’ll just lay down and die.”
He said what any QB would say…we can still win. And they did. Straight to the Superbowl.
“Guarantee that bonus and TO’s a happy little Eagle right now”
Neither you, nor I, nor TO’s therapist has any idea what would have made TO a happy little Eagle…other than more money in year 2 of his 7 year contract. If waiting until yr 3 to get his $7.5mm roster bonus would have made him happy (whether guaranteed or not) then he could have just waited and collected.
If the Eagles had cut him after 2 years, then he’d be a free agent and able to collect a fat new contract with some other team. But how could the team have cut him if he had had another year like the first one? The backlash against them would have been enormous.
Instead, he gave the team an out by publicly disrespecting his QB along with all the other crap.
I don’t disagree with you that the Eagles are Cheap and the Cowboys are not. The Eagles are cheap. They should have paid TO off to keep him happy. They should be paying Westbrook, too.
But with TO it has nothing to do with respect. Only greed and ego. Unfortunately, Eagles mgt has an ego too. So when TO took it public, it was all over.
So you have every right to be proud that your team pays TO and Barber and Newman.
But do not think TO is anything but a me-first, narcistic, baffoon…and, unfortunately, one of the best receivers in the league.

I’m tired of people saying that this man is crazy. He is a very sensitive person just like other celebrities in this world. (Shaq, Gary Sheffield, Chad Johnson and many others). Unfortunately, he let his emotions get the best of him and handle the situations with his former teams unprofessionally. However, he learned from his past transgressions and is handling the current situation very well. He has learned from his past situations that the way he handled his former situation was a PR nightmare especially when they don’t like him u because a person like him doesn’t kiss their ass. So finally, people on this blog please give him the benefit of a doubt because he earned it because the way he handle himself during his tenure in Dallas.
