Saints defensive end Charles Grant was stabbed in the neck during a bar fight in February. And that’s not the worst of it.
Grant has now been indicted in Georgia for involuntary manslaughter and misdemeanor fighting as a result of the events that resulted in the death of Korynda Reed, 23, and her unborn child.
Each of the various participants in the fight were charged with involuntary manslaughter, and the person who actually fired the shots that killed Reed and her child was charged with felony murder and feticide. The guy who stabbed Grant in the neck is facing aggravated assault charges.
Under Georgia law, involuntary manslaughter appears to be a felony.

So Grant was attacked and defended himself and he gets up on involuntary manslaughter. I don’t get it. If anyone knows about Georgia Laws please help me out this. Seems like self defense. I thought this could only happen to Bengal players.

These guys never learn. It’s always a night club or a strip club or a bar.
How about getting away from it all, back to nature, sailing on a boat on a lake or something?
No, wait…

Just read an unconfirmed report that a fight between Grant’s cousin and the guy that stabbed Grant started inside the club then moved outside. Grant and his cousin (the guy’s that’s charged with murder and feticide) were trying to leave when the third guy came up and started giving them crap. Cousin went for his gun, Grant tried to get the gun away from the cousin and the gun went off, hitting the pregnant woman. Meanwhile, third guy stabbed Grant in the neck, at which point Grant grabbed the gun and started shooting at him.

Manslaughter can get you 5+ years in GA. I know someone who just got done with his term. He is not a very good person though.

Roger Goodell called. He said if you get traded to the Patriots he will destroy any evidence he finds.

The police said he was not an instigator nor was he a willing participant in the fight. But he gets manslaughter? Do we have the anti-Poindexter district attorney here? There’s an NFL player within 100 yards of a crime better snag him or the people will think I’ll let him slide. Turd points for the Saints. Thanks Barney Fife.

That charge will not stick. It is a very common practice to give someone an inflated charge and then let them plead down to a far lesser crime in exchange for testimony. Most people in a situation like this never see trial. Once they get the information they need from him this will probably disappear.

I’m always impressed with how many different ways the Saints can find to make their defense suck.

In Georgia, involuntary manslaughter is both a misdemeanor and a felony– a misdemeanor is death is caused while commiting a legal act; and a felony if death is caused while committing an illegal NON-FELONY act. If death is caused while committing a felony, then the felony murder rule applies. I have attached the statute below:
O.C.G.A. § 16-5-3 (2007)
§ 16-5-3. Involuntary manslaughter
(a) A person commits the offense of involuntary manslaughter in the commission of an unlawful act when he causes the death of another human being without any intention to do so by the commission of an unlawful act other than a felony. A person who commits the offense of involuntary manslaughter in the commission of an unlawful act, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than one year nor more than ten years.
(b) A person commits the offense of involuntary manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act in an unlawful manner when he causes the death of another human being without any intention to do so, by the commission of a lawful act in an unlawful manner likely to cause death or great bodily harm. A person who commits the offense of involuntary manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act in an unlawful manner, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished as for a misdemeanor.

the crime occurred while he was engaged in misdemeanor fighting so he is facing 1 to 10 years for the involuntary manslaughter

Umm… I think I’d probably rather be indicted than stabbed in the neck.

But I know everyone here would not just stand there and get stabed and not fight back. I know a lady died and her child, and the person who did that need to go to jail for life/or put to death. But if someone attacks me with a knife, im going to fight back. I know its the law and it seems like to not be in the wrong you have to stand there and get attacked and if you are a human i dont think most of us could do that. Its just sad someone has to die for something that happen over something stupid and a unborn child.
