If the starting tailback job in Chicago is Cedric Benson’s to lose, Benson has gotten off to a good start in his quest to lose it.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Benson skipped voluntary workouts on Monday.
It’s unknown whether Benson will show up on Tuesday, and why he missed Monday. It’s possible that Benson is miffed by the recent remarks of G.M. Jerry Angelo, who accused Benson of putting himself in a position to be the victim in connection with his arrest earlier this month for boating while intoxicated.
In Benson’s absence, Adrian Peterson (not that one) took the reps with the first team. Two years ago, then-starter Thomas Jones was demoted after he missed voluntary workouts, even though teams technically are prohibited from disciplining a player who chooses not to participate in voluntary offseason practice sessions.

If Benson doesn’t get into camp, the only person he is hurting, is himself.

Are depth charts something official? I dont think that just because a team website lists something on a depth chart means the coach has to use player sin any specific way. so I dont see how moving a guy down on the depth chart can be called disciplining. I dont even see how whether listing him or not and even starting him or not can be considered discipling a player, unless a team says ‘w emoved him down to punish him for..’
It seems like its a lot like an injury, if you get injured you automatically lose your job. If a guys not there for workouts, someone else has to take the reps with the first team.

Maybe he is still suffering from the effects of the pepper spray. That’s a good way to win over teammates that already hate you. The Bears need to step up, cut him and admit their mistake, which they should have done in the draft by taking Mendenhall. This team made the Super Bowl the year before last, I wonder when they will get to their next one at this rate?

Hey CaptainFantastik, what exactly does Thomas Jones have to be happy about right now? The great season he just had? Or maybe he’s just so full of optimism for the upcoming season that he can laugh about Benson and the Bears.
Benson might be a turd, but you’re just a moron.

Even though the workouts are voluntary, its nearing the end of May - you have not “worked” at your “fulltime” job since the end of December. Wish I had 6 months off per year, get paid millions to do so, cannot perform well at my job and yet still have a job, then I get busted and its everyone else fault. Unreal.

who cares? the bears should cut this loser pronto. he needs the time with the team. i live outside detroit and get to watch more bears foobah than the average watcher. this guy had one really good run all year where he ran hard, broke into daylight and made significant yardage.
and at the end he was hurt and likely hollerin for mama.
move on, bears.
