If the starting tailback job in Chicago is Cedric Benson’s to lose, Benson has gotten off to a good start in his quest to lose it.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Benson skipped voluntary workouts on Monday.

It’s unknown whether Benson will show up on Tuesday, and why he missed Monday.  It’s possible that Benson is miffed by the recent remarks of G.M. Jerry Angelo, who accused Benson of putting himself in a position to be the victim in connection with his arrest earlier this month for boating while intoxicated.

In Benson’s absence, Adrian Peterson (not that one) took the reps with the first team.  Two years ago, then-starter Thomas Jones was demoted after he missed voluntary workouts, even though teams technically are prohibited from disciplining a player who chooses not to participate in voluntary offseason practice sessions.
