A league source tells us that the Dallas Cowboys and running back Marion Barber have reached agreement on a long-term contract.
Per the source, it’s a seven-year deal worth a total of $45 million. The package includes $16 million in guaranteed bonuses, and will pay out $21 million over the first three years.
The better news for Barber is that he’ll have every opportunity to earn all of that money, since the Cowboys remain committed to using a two-back approach, which will help to extend Barber’s career well into the next decade by limiting the physical punishment that he takes.

Nice work Florio, you have it before the Cowboys radio broadcast station even has it.

Good signing by the Cowboys, definitely a fair deal for both parties. I agree with the Matt Ryan comment, the rookie payscale needs to be fixed. Hopefully they will address it in the upcoming CBA

Good deal for both sides. I would hate to see Barber in position to hold out because of his agent.

Boy, Jerry Jones really has the NFL owner thing figured out, doesn’t he?
Look what he’s doing here. He sees the 2010 year being uncapped, and he’s sees superstars like MB3 and Terrance Newman signed for absolutle bargains down the road. If there’s no cap, the Cowboys don’t have to worry about a thing.
Jerry Jones can relax in his Billion Dollar Stadium, and laugh at the huge Pepsi/NFL revenues. Tell me he doesn’t have this league in his pocket?
He’ll be able to win 5 Super Bowls in 6 years starting from 2010, up until 2016.

Jerry Jones doesn’t have the league in his back pocket. Jerry was one of the major proponents for a salary cap when the league didn’t have one. Of course, he made sure to sign Emmitt Smith to long term extension weeks before the first salary cap took effect. Besides, does spending more mean winning more? If so, then how come the New York Yankees have only won 1 more World Series than the Florida Marlins in the last 10 or so years?

vincelombardi I wonder if Jim Brown or Walter Peyton where the highest paid running backs of there times? It would be intresting to see if Florio could dig up such info. Like last off seasons top 25 of the last 25 (that DIDN”T include TOM BRADY) it would be intresting to see who top paid players by position from different earas. I bet there would be alot of reconisable names, but maybe not Hall of Famers. Heck just look at past drafts. Most are OVERLOADED with underachievers.

“Of course, he made sure to sign Emmitt Smith to long term extension weeks before the first salary cap took effect.”
Errr Emmitt got his NEW contract two games into the 1993 season, big guy. It wasn’t an extension. And the salary cap didn’t start until the following season.
“Besides, does spending more mean winning more? If so, then how come the New York Yankees have only won 1 more World Series than the Florida Marlins in the last 10 or so years?”
Did you mistake this for a baseball blog?
And vincelombardi, if you think Barber’s contract is ridiculous what do you make of the $19 million contract that Al Harris signed in ‘04? Same number of INTs and INTs for TDs as Roy Williams, only he’s been around 4 more years than Williams. How’s that for some perspective?

Hey vince, so go do something else. Sorry you can’t afford to go to a game but many people obviously can. As for JerryWorld, so long as you don’t want a premium seat it’s not going to cost much more than it already does. The cheapest seats will only cost $9 more than the cheapest seats in Texas Stadium. 59 bucks! Here’s what some other teams will charge for nosebleed seats THIS season.
Giants - $80
Jets - $75
Bears - $68
Patriots - $65
Bengals - $59
Packers - $59
Steelers - $59
You could always go sit on a cold bench in Lambeau Field for the same price, you know. Texas Stadium nosebleed seats are only $50 this season.

So basically, you’re just bitching for the sake of bitching? Seriously, do you have a vagina?

Yeah, I will keep the faith. That’s what fans do. You keep up with the hating, since that’s all that haters can ever manage to do. Stick to your “family vacations” at the NRH2O and get a real job so you can take them on a real vacation. Oh and don’t forget to keep buying stuff because YOUR tax dollars are being used to build the “vomitarium” for the man that you despise so much. I’ll be sure to laugh at your broke ass when me and my family go to the games IF I decide to drive through Arlington’s low-rent areas on the way. Chump.

I think Scary Jerry is really Walt Disney unfrozen, owner of a billion dollar franchise, with a new theme park on the way, have you noticed most trips to Disney average about a week, just like the CowGirls play off runs for the last decade, the resemblance is uncanny as well….

EskinSux, thats a billion point FIVE dollar franchise… and even without any playoff wins in the last decade, the Cowboys STILL have almost as many playoff wins (32) as the Eagles have playoff wins and losses COMBINED in their entire 75 year existence (34). Speaking of convenient windows, how many league championships have the Eagles won in the last 45 years?
