Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones is ready to go to work. But since Pacman has yet to be cleared to practice with the Cowboys, he still must wait to do so.
And so Pacman says he plans to call NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, in order to request permission to work out with the team.
“I still have to go through the process, and I’m just waiting, waiting every day,” Jones told Albert Breer of the Dallas Morning News. “I’m ready to get in there and learn the defense. And I’ve been out of the game for a year, so I need to shake off all the rust to get ready to play. . . . I’m going to put in a call to the commissioner some time soon and hope he at least lets me work out with the team.”
Pac, we advise against it. Goodell knows you want to play again, and Goodell has promised to review your case before training camp. Sure, it might be a bit frustrating. But maybe part of Goodell’s plan in this regard is to see if you have learned how to deal properly with frustrating situations.
There’s also that question of whether Jones’ story to police in September 2007 of the guy in Vegas who thought that Pacman had ordered a hit on Tommy Urbanski and others meshes with whatever story Pacman gave to Goodell about the same incident. If Pacman didn’t provide the exact same version of Goodell, there might not be a reinstatement in 2008.

Grovel…! Give letters from local ministers, civic leaders, coaches, police athletic league departmental heads, anything and everything to show solid commitment, anything worth noting so the commish can legitimately say cleared but on a short leash… No Lambourghini’s, no strip clubs, nothing that would jepardise his opportunity for reinstatement… Free the Pacman!

I see no reason why Pacman shouldn’t contact the Commissioner regarding work outs, being allowed to work out with the team and complete re-instatement are two entirely different things.
If nothing else, a few months of work outs with the team would offer further evidence for or against re-instatement (depending on his level of commitment) when full re-instatement is eventually considered.

A coach cheats for 7 years and does not get suspended? Pacman has been out a year already for the Vegas incident. What good does it do to keep him away from people like Calvin Hill who can help him. If Pacman joined the Patriots, he would have already been reinstated.

Putting turds back into the spotlight is the perfect way to reduce the fan base. Ask the NBA and MLB. And the twenty people that still watch those two leagues. Time for the NFL to take out the trash and tossing Pacman to the curb would be a great first step. Let’s see how much backbone Goodell has now that he’s up against a very powerful and influential owner in Jerry Jones. My guess is like all the other commissioners in all the other professional sports, he’ll fold like a house of cards. Jones just has too much juice to cross.

The Vegas incident????? what about all the crap he got in trouble for or was in the news for? The NFL has a player conduct policy and he ignored it. As for Bellicheat I think they were TOOOOOOOO lenient on him, should have been suspended for a year or more!

I am not a fan of him being reinstated after all he has done, but if you are going to consider it then you should allow him to work out with the team. I don’t see the harm in it

Is there anything that Pacman has done that’s as bad as killing someone? I don’t see anybody complaining about Little being allowed to play.

east96st, you might want to recheck you sources on MLB. I believe that they just set another attendance record for last season. As for the NBA, meh. But at least they made it through last season without another headline misconduct screamer. And this seasons playoffs have been the most exciting in years.

It’s intereting how the Dallas fans talk about Pacman, and how much he will contribute to the defense this year when there is still a question as to whether he will play this year.

Shackman - check the TV ratings vs. football. World Series and/or NBA Finals vs. Super Bowl. It’s fairly obvious which sport is number one and that’s football. If you’re into basketball and/or baseball, fine. Enjoy!! I never claimed that they should be banned or stopped. All I said is football is the enviable position of being top dog. I believe Goodell would be unwise to overlook players misconduct AND the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs (which to my knowledge, Pacman has NOT been linked to) due to the fact that those scandals damaged the other sports. Enjoy your summer with MLB. Me - I can think of about a thousand better ways to spend it than watching the ‘roid boys of summer kill three plus hours of my day. But if that’s your thing, more power to you!

And while you’re at it might as well throw that bum Mike Patterson out too.

He cannot manage, however, to keep married women out of his home. Obviously. Remember that when you’re having him canonized.

Vox - we all know you are the Cowboys unofficial apologist on this site. Why you have your identity so wrapped up with that team is for you and your shrink to work out. As for Patterson, his record is NOT even close to Pacman’s. But, I am all in favor of the NFL throwing as many turds out as is necessary. Not to boost Florio’s ego more than it is, but I think he’s definitely on to something with his plan to punish teams for protecting felons by removing draft picks. If Jones wants to pick up criminals for pennies on the dollar (he did a GREAT job getting Pacman for almost nothing - shrewd businessman!) he is free to do so. But if it was to cost him, or any other owner, draft picks, I don’t think he would do it. In the long run, I think the sport would be better off and, ultimately, more profitable without these jackasses. That goes for every team in the NFL, not just the Cowboys.

Well, Ray Lewis is still on the field in a very similar situation. Sure, pacmans actions sparked the melee, but he didn’t shoot Urbanski. The killer has been found. Pacman is no choir boy and he should be reinstated with a zero tolerance. Actually the promoter is more to blame that Jones.

Give it a rest. Everyone knows a powerful owner like Jerrah got assurances from the league Pacman would be reinstated.
This is Florio generating some copy and filling space. Good job, Florio!
