One issue that has been overlooked by many/most/all of the media, and of which a reader has reminded us recently, is the question of whether the Patriots used their videotaping system on the St. Louis Rams when the two teams met in the 2001 regular season, only a couple of months before Super Bowl XXXVI.
Even though we now know that the Pats didn’t videotape the Rams’ walk-through prior to the game, it doesn’t mean that there was no cheating on the biggest stage in sports.
It’s unclear whether the question has been asked, but it sure doesn’t appear to us that the question has been answered. And it’s a simple question — did the videotaping of defensive coaching signals include the November 18 prime-time game between the two teams, which the Rams won, 24-17?

The day the pats went eighteen & ONE was even sweeter when I realized what a huge mess this was going to be. Many people I’ve personally spoke with on the issue believe even they could HC a team to victory if they were predicting (as allegedly reported) 75% of the “D” plays on some nights. IF the COLTS did that Peyton wouldn’t need an OC the team would just let him run the offense @all times AND he would Smash just about every single season passing record.

Thank you for my daily dose of heroin! I was getting the shakes real bad, man!
I think I just heard all of New England let out another sigh of disbelief as your latest spygate post hit the web. I can just see the posts to come: “why can’t you just move on”, “how many times do I have to tell you this wasn’t cheating, it was legal to do prior to 2006″, “yada, yada, yada”. (through the Seinfeld in just for Florio).
I busted a gut, and will continue to revel in their misery!

Get ready for a 200 comment furor by Patriots fans.
They will claim everybody is jealous and hating them, but they will make up 90% of the comments.

Yes, they’ve been recording teams since 2000. It’s likely they recorded it, however it’s very likely the Rams changed their signals in the post-season and certainly for a super bowl against a team they played in the regular season and won by only a touchdown on a season where they outscored opponents by an average of 14 pts.
Come on folks, they lost because they turned the ball over 3 times, and outside of personnel formations there are no offensive signals to steal. Let’s stop looking for excuses.

It was legal until 2006. You know this Mike right?
I don’t really get why so many people blatantly ignore the facts when it comes to “spygate”.
But even if it was illegal, if the Rams used the same signals for the same plays in formations in both games, they deserved to lose that Superbowl.

Hey, I’m a reader, and I think we should bring up the fact that you should change your name to Mike Tomase Florio. or maybe we should bring up the fact that Jimmie Johnson admitted to the same thing. So maybe we should ask congress to look into the Cowboys Superbowl victory too.. what the hell, maybe the Giants videotaped the Pats and used it in the superbowl.. I mean, if a reader brings it up, it must be a legitimate question that must be answered….
shall I get any more rediculous? can you?

if you know the original code, breaking the new code can’t take that long. all you have to do is figure out what the sign for the playcall is….. and it’s not like changing signs is a small deal. it’s a big deal and any small screwup can make it not worth it.

Mike,
If you can find it, read the Goodell transcript. I believe someone asked him if the regular season game was recorded sand he responded that he asked, and Walsh said no.
Then Walsh said this to the NYT:
Q. The regular-season game against the Rams in 2001, what were your duties?
A. I remember before the game, our video room was located right next to the visitor’s locker room. Even though the locker room doors were closed, myself and Pepper Johnson were outside the video room right before the game. And we were able to hear, through the doors, Mike Martz giving his pre-game speech to the team. Trying to incite them about, you know, it was Sunday night football. How good they were. And how we were just another A.F.C. team.
They won by a touchdown, so I guess it worked.
Q. And what did you do during the game?
A. Filmed, to the best of my recollection. I can’t specifically say I remember the details of what I filmed.

Spygate - the mediots drug of choice. ha ha ha ha ha
Mike you’re hooked. You can’t get enough. This is so hilarious!
We’ve heard rumors that Belichick taped tapers taping the tapes taped by the orignal tapers of the tape. Can you clarify this latest Peter the Pompous King of the Mediots “scandal” for us Mike?
Since you’re not talking football Mike I hope you caught that Jon Lester no-hitter tonight. Just an awesome time to be a New England sports fan.
Football dynasty, World Series champs, NBA playoffs, the young kids throwing no-hitters ywp tears running…
And the best part?? Mike Florio and Co. continue to obsess over US as we continue to live large. Sweet!!
Mike, do you mediots snort your Spygate or do you take the needle?

vincelombardi who’s killing the messenger? I’m a huge Patriots fan and I think this whole Spygate obsession is becomming hilarious.
The mediots hate Belichick because even now he refuses to kiss their collective sorry arses. His refusal to bow down to the mediots is what has carried this story for months. And we know you fans of other teams would love to have Belichick coaching your teams. We in Patriot nation understand where this national obsession comes from and we’re flattered. We really are! ha ha ha ha ha

I don’t care if the patriots set up a tripod on their sidelines aimed directly at the Rams coaching area prior to the game, and put an “On Air” sign just above it that blinked when they were taping… I think the advantage gained is minimal, and I have an idea to remedy it.. CHANGE YOUR SIGNS.
