This afternoon we noted a Miami Herald report that Dolphins cornerback Will Allen had been questioned by police in connection with an accusation that he pulled a gun in what was described as “a disagreement over money.

The Herald report said the dispute took place in a parking lot at a Bed Bath & Beyond, and that made the whole thing sound rather silly. But the South Florida Sun-Sentinel adds a detail that could make the report quite a bit more serious in the eyes of the league office.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, WPLG-Channel 10 in Miami alleged that Allen borrowed money to pay gambling debts and pulled the gun when he was asked to repay those debts.

Police would not confirm the report, the report is not on WPLG’s web site, and Allen has not been arrested. So this may turn out to be nothing. But any time Roger Goodell sees the words “gun” and “gambling” in a story related to an NFL player, you can bet he takes it seriously.
