The Texas steroid dealer who implicated New Orleans Saints lineman Matt Lehr as one of his clients has met with NFL investigators.

David Jacobs said he was approached right after being sentenced for probation for steroid distribution on May 1, which is also when he said he wanted to help the NFL learn about loopholes that could be exploited to beat drug tests. Jacobs said investigators “wanted to know what information I had and what other documentary evidence I could provide them with. I told them I was not going to talk specifics without my lawyer present. They wanted to know a list of players I dealt with and knew, and I told them I didn’t feel comfortable doing that yet.”

League spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed that representatives had met with Jacobs and said further meetings were scheduled but refused to elaborate on the subject matter.

Jacobs added that investigators told him “they didn’t want to go through what baseball has gone through with the public and Congress.” Arlen Specter’s ears just perked up but the NFL can cut this off at the pass if they concentrate their efforts on improving testing procedures through their discussions with Jacobs. Of course that wouldn’t help them with HGH but baby steps are still steps.
