Patriots coach Bill Belichick has given an exclusive interview to Armen Keteyian. The sit-down will air on Friday’s CBS Evening News.
The CBS press release (which wasn’t — sniff — sent to us) states that Belichick will “address[] for the first time charges made by his team’s former videotaper that he knew the taping of opposing teams was wrong.” (It’s not clear to us whether the “he” refers to the former videotaper or Belichick.)
So why did Belichick (and/or the Patriots) pick CBS? Well, the Pats and CBS have partnered to put the first “CBS Scene Restaurant and Bar” in the heart of “Patriot Place.” The venue opens later this year.
Even if the partnership between the Patriots and CBS had nothing to do with the selection of CBS to do the interview, we hope that Keteyian’s interview will at least disclose the relationship, so that the audience will be able to factor the potential bias into its assessment of whether the interview is fair and balanced, or whether it’s a one-sided puff piece aimed at giving Belichick an opportunity to get his point across without being asked tough questions or reminded that Commissioner Roger Goodell essentially called him a liar during a press conference on Tuesday.

It could be that CBS pays the NFL quite a bit of money for AFC games. That makes more sense.

I can see Belichick manning up for the second time to the public about his actions.
Hopefully this time he will call out the agenda driven frauds in this whole circus - ESPN, The Herald, Spector, Walsh, Goodell, Mangini…and the list goes on and on.

Well, NBC does Sunday night, Fox has the NFC, CBS has the AFC, and ESPN (part of ABC) has the Monday night game. that makes them ALL suspect, doesn’t it?

It’s time to rank Bill Bilichick up there as one of the guys in the NFL that is bad for the image of the game.

I worked for CBS News for years. They’re not intelligent enough to have a bias. Nor ask any question that is remotely interesting. Expect the usual CBS News viewership of 14 people and one homeless guy that found an abandoned TV that only gets one channel - CBS.

I have to agree with the initial comment. Spygate is now ruining my favorite website. Just let it go, already! If you keep saying that there is no “new” news, then why is this the only thing on here?

It would be more fun with Katie leaning in and asking if he is a bold faced liar in a sugary kind of way?
When you said you mis understood the rules, did you mean before or after the memo?
This interview and explanation is a year late. The guy already gave his real response, this is just PR and damage control.

He’s trying to get on TV before the Matt Walsh interview on HBO tonight. CBS will not ask him any tough questions, will be a stupid puff piece. He will probably again deny that he knew the taping of signals was against the rules, that’s why they had to go to great lengths to hide what they were doing. What a liar. I thought Belicheat was supposed to be a “genius”. A genius knows the rules, right?? A genius wouldn’t do something he could get in trouble for doing unless it was giving the Patriots a clear advantage. Anyone who thinks differently is an idiot.

Bilichick lied to the commissioner, he’ll lie to CBS as they slow pitch him softballs. He tampered with the integrity of the game and should have been suspended, so how can I trust anything that dribbles from his mouth.

Maybe once and for all he will admit he cheated (since the league has already confirmed this as a fact). And we all know, that by definition you cheat to win something you would not have otherwise won*

Armon Keteyian is usually a pretty fair and intelligent interviewer. At least he doesn’t usually ask completely stupid questions while ignoring what everyone wnats to know. Don’t expect any shocking though.

Seems the nfl is scrambling to clean its name now any way it can.
It is exasperating that the nfl will allow the pats to keep their super bowl trophys after its a fact that the cheated winning them.
basically this pats cheating episode has brought the nfl out in the light. That they do allow cheating. And when the cheaters finally get caught then its the job of the nfl to sweep it under the rug as fast as possible.
Just keep giving us your money. What I can’t stand is the cover up. Its so blatant now. Sad that this is how the nfl really operates.

Belichick and Keteyian have been friends for years. Bill respects him and will give Armen access that he won’t give to others. Let’s be clear here…people talk about the Kraft family and Scott Pioli…one guy runs the show up there and it ain’t a democracy.

Belichick and Armand Keteyian have a good relationship, as he’s given him halftime interviews in the past which he typically doesn’t give to the Bonnie Bernstiens of the world.

Yes CBS could have a bias, but there are a lot of networks that have a bias against the Patriots and Belichick so it would be tough to find someone who might be completely objective. I do agree CBS should reveal their conflict though.
It is no different than Arlen Specter, Michael Levy, and Matt Walsh all giving the NY Times exclusive interviews over the last few months. NY Times haven’t hid their anti-Patriots bias in their reporting.
