When the Spygate story re-assumed on Tuesday its position as the biggest story in the NFL, I forgot that I’d sent in a new column for SportingNews.com the night before.
And I continued to forget about the “I can’t thing of anything specific to do so let’s come up with a list” article, until it landed on the front page of Yahoo this afternoon.
The item focuses on the ten worst moves (and non-moves) to date of the offseason. You can read it right here.
Proof that the product of a case of writer’s block got some attenton on the entry page of one of the top sites on the web appears below.

Why would the Eagles sell Sheppard for 60 cents on the dollar? Plus, why give up your starting corner before you even sign Samuels. In the NFL, nothing is guarenteed to happen until the player has signed and passed his physical. Anyone remember LeCharles Bentley?

Hey Florio,
What about the Eagles Decision to spend a crapload on Asante Samuel??? This guy is only Barely better than the YOUNGER Lito Sheppard, who apparently is on the trade block (who can blame him). Instead of trying to focus their attention towards getting a #1 wr, or depth at the position, they decided to commit $57 mil to a DB who in my opinion benefitted by playing for a defense who for most of the year was playing ahead by at least two touchdowns! Stupid move, stupid eagles, good luck with kevin curtis and desean Jackson!

Hey Florio,
What about the Eagles overpaying for a Asante Samuel??? Instead of focusing their attention towards getting a #1 wr, or depth at the position, they decided to spend $57 mil on Samuel, who is only barely better than the YOUNGER Lito Sheppard, who is now on the block (who can blame him). Samuel is good, but he benefited greatly by playing for a defense that for the most of the season was playing behind at least a 2td lead. Stupid move, stupid eagles, good luck with Kevin Curtis and Desean Jackson!

If I my be Cliff Clavin for a sec, It’s a little known fact that Samuel Jackson is in Animal House. Grab your DVDs. In the begining. at the prep frat house ,sitting on the couch in a turbin with all the other rejects, is the great Samuel Jackson. He is not in the credits. But you can find it listed in his filmography.

JMiller name the #1 WR that was actually available this offseason? Moss wasn’t really available but they went after him. Neither were any of the other rumored trades because NOT ONE of them were traded to ANYONE. They tried but they obviously were never available.
You want to know why they got Assante because he has more INTs then Sheppard in less time (he’s what a couple months older OMG he is so old) and he actually has the ability to stay healthy for a full season.
BTW how in the world does having two pro bowl corners AND Sheldon Brown in the secondary hurt the Eagles. Stupid comment. Stupid reasoning. No reason to trade him before getting Samuel because if you don’t get him you just screwed yourself royally. You also forget that multiple teams bidding for his services should have instantly negated any cost of having Samuel signed. The reason he wasn’t traded is because every other team in the NFL felt the same way that the Eagles did and that is while Sheppard is a very good corner he’s injured far too much recently to warrant a big fat new contract.
Samuel has been playing at that level for several years without the 2 TD lead so that is pure BS.
Lito is not TO. Lito will not be traded, just like McNabb has not been traded despite your claims ALL last season that he would be. They know have one of the best secondaries in the NFL man it must suck to be them huh? One of the major problems that manifested last season was despite being a statistically top 10 defense they did not generate nearly enough turn overs. Now you have a chance (that chance relying on Lito staying healthy) of having two corners on the field who specialize in taking the ball away from the other team. Terrible move I agree.

So…the Bears chose not to reeeaaach for a weak class of QB’s and fix the vast and gaping holes across their offense and defense. How is that THE worst thing done (or not) by a team this year?
While the QB situation is mediocre at best…their offensive line and running back situation are dire. They needed a Chris Williams and a Joe Forte more than they needed Joe Flacco and/or a Brian Brohm.
Further, are you saying you would choose Lemon, Culpepper, McCown or maybe Fat Albert (the “best UFA’s) over Grossman…who sucks just as bad…but at least doesn’t need to be taught the offense? Please.
But…since this is the worst thing EVER (in the 2008 off-season) please tell us what you would have done differently.

Sorry TClark -
from acmewebpages.com/animal house
Some posts on the IMDb Animal House message board suggest that Samuel L. Jackson might have played the uncredited character Muhammed, one of the pledge candidate losers at Omega House. It seems plausible. Jackson was just at the start of his career, an unknown, and about 29 or 30 years old. This topic comes up regularly on that message board. Here’s what I wrote there in March 2004:
* At the time Animal House was filmed, Jackson lived in New York City where he was a member of the Negro Ensemble Company.
* If that were really Jackson on the couch, he would have assuredly included that information in his acting resume and filmography.
* If that were really him on the couch, we’d have heard something about it long ago. He would have attended the reunion parties and been interviewed on the anniversary DVDs.
* All of the non-speaking parts (and a few of the speaking parts) were played by locally hired extras. Why would Landis pay to fly Jackson from New York for such a tiny part and then not even give him credit for it?
* Co-script writer Chris Miller told me, “Samuel Jackson was in no way part of anything to do with Animal House. Wouldn’t that have been cool, though?”
* But finally, the character Muhammed was actually played by an extra named Terry, a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity at the University of Oregon, one of the many students hired as extras.

Mike, Mike, Mike I do not know what to think of this……..I have been following you site for almost 3 years and just about daily for the last year (I like my life thank you). I do not recall you committing double speak this bad before. I was shocked to read what you wrote and where you ranked Chicago (why does this garbage from you rank #1?). You were supportive after the draft and now you sound like Jay Mariotti, critical about anything Chicago Bears. Your criticism of McNair was also surprising. But your article was for Yahoo, does that have something to do it? I agree with the Steelers point (hey the Lance Briggs thing blew over) about franchising Faneca, the Raiders point about over spending (Davis has dementia, for those of you in Rio Linda that means losing his mind), and the Bengals point about Chad keeping his mouth shut (no comment).

The Vikes got a proven stud with two strikes against him. Enormous upgrade for an already potent Defense, but if I’m not mistaken, one more incident and he’s out for a year. Del Rio isn’t about to bring that into his well-established locker room. Harvey has done zip in the NFL, but he has huge potential and a track record of keeping his nose clean. The Jags gave up a ton to get him which is what draws the most criticism, but they are a lot deeper than most teams and could afford to sacrifice the picks in a weak draft. Harvey doesn’t have the pressure of a Mario Williams. He just needs to play within himself and the D-line should be in better shape. Is this really a worse move than, I don’t know, adopting proven turd, Adam Jones; a guy who still has not been reinstated?

I have to side with Msnyder275 on this one Florio - weak class of QB’s does not warrant picking one just to say you picked one. Grossman knows the offense and so does Orton, are they Manning or Brady, we all know the answer to that one, but Grossman did make it to the SB and Orton managed not to lose games when he started…get the holes on the O-line fixed and get a running game going. Any team can win with a good running game, a solid O-line and decent QB play. I do have to add to the mix here that Grossman did not get much help from his receivers, if the ball wasnt dropped into Berrians hands he never cam back for it and Moose “stone hands” Muhammed was just awful…hard to win games when they are dropping TD passes…
