As we all wait for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to speak about his three-hour-plus interview with former Pats employee Matt Walsh, the league has released some of the videotapes that Walsh surrendered to the league.
The tapes are being shown to the media that is assembled in New York for Goodell’s press conference.
Goodell is expected to speak to the media soon.
By the way, the television coverage of this event, on both ESPN and NFL Network, is creating the sense that something big is coming.
Then again, so did Geraldo Rivera’s coverage of the moments preceding the opening of Al Capone’s vault.
Meanwhile, various of the talking heads onf ESPN seem to be under the impression that defensive coaching signals taped in the first half of a game can actually be used in the second half. We’d love for one of these geniuses to explain in detail exactly how these Cloverfield-quality tapes could be broken down and digested during the same game.
These tapes were made for use in future games, either against the same team or involving the same head coach or assistant coaches. And we’ve known about this practice since September.
But, then again, ESPN has to talk about something while we wait for the Commissioner to speak.

NYJetsFan,
Scherleth also said he would be ashamed to play with a team that cheats like the Patriots. He apparently has no problem with playing for a team that cheated like Broncos did while he played with them.
I guess a bunch of shots of the cheerleaders is going to give the Pats a competitive edge. Schlereth still maintains that the tapes were used during the game yet has never given a logical explaination of how it could be done.

Pats fans are so cute. First we hear for years what a “genius” Belichick is. Then we hear how Captain I.Q. couldn’t understand a simple rule from the book. Which is it, Pats fans? Is he Einstein or Bill and Ted? I tell you, sometimes these funny Pats fans can give you a real headache.

Goodell would gladly like to sweep it under the rug but it is possible that many ex players really take it seriously how intricate this process of gaining an advantage over the opponent.
Ex players know the significance of such information, Stink and Carter gave a honest perspective as former players. But its unlikely the NFL would stab its own image twice. Let the spin control commence!

JetsFan: The Jets were caught taping in Gillette and kicked out. The Pats had the clas to handle it themselves.
Cris Carter and Schlereth are talking out of their butts on this. So far at least, nothing new and damning has come out.

Anyone that knows anything about editing video knows that you cant put together those tapes during the game. It doesnt take a degree in cinematography.

“Before you comment that I am a Jets fans…Yes, I realize Mangini was there. Yes, that is disappointing. But, the Jets have never had an issue of substance with something like this.”
Wasn’t a Jets video assistant asked to leave after being caught taping the Patriots from the end zone in their second meeting this year? I hate to tell you most of the Walsh tapes that have been shown so far are showing the EXACT SAME THING?

People are acting like they never knew this is what the Patriots did. This frustrates me so much, because I KNOW that there are half a million Patriot haters who know little to ABSOLUTELY nothing about the game screaming their heads off, “Yes! Finally, some hard evidence they cheated!” There are so many media that anyone could be filming the game for ANY team.
It is sad to know that people who are reporting on this issue do not give a full explanation of what is going on, and a clear picture, to the VERY LARGE MASS that is called the football world, before that very same amount of “fans” make wrongful judgments on an organization.

It’s definitely possible to use footage from the first half of the game and digest it during half time. If you had an assistant coach designated to work on that for the entire half time, he could have substantial info ready for the coaches by the start of the 2nd half.

You have really veiled your bias Florio.
Why were they taping a team in the playoffs if they did not have a way to use the information during the game?
Makes we wonder in the SuperBowl with an extended half time how much they could put this info
to use.

ESPN is unreal.
These tapes took HOURS and HOURS to edit them in this format. Three different splices are made to make this tape. 1. The coaches 2. the Time. 3. The End Zone footage.
Mark and Chris need to be schooled by someone that understands football.
Now what happens if the teams change their signals!!!!

This goes to show how underhanded the Patriots organization has become. I would have a lot more respect for them if they came out and said “yeah we did something we shouldn’t have been doing - I accept the punishment of the League.” Instead we get “Oh….I misinterpreted the rule that clearly says no cameras or filming.” Either Bilichek is a complete idiot or he thinks the general public is to offer such nonsense and expect anybody with any reasonable intelligence to believe it.

So, I am going to rely on the opinion of former NFL players rather than homer Pats commenting above that tapes like these provided a significant advantage for the Pats.
When the players are claiming that the Pats can edit the videotape to show the signals and the corresponding formation/play and decipher the signals during a halftime, you should not rely on their opinion.

So Gooddell just said “It is permissible for clubs to tape defensive signals.” As noted before, this whole issue is about the fact that the Pats did it from the wrong location. Gimme a break…

Goodell just said Walsh told him the tapes were NOT used in the same game, that the tapes never left his (Walsh’s) possession during the game.
Chris Carter and Stink, wrong again. Florio got this one right.
There’s no new info here at all. We knew all this in September.

On Wednesday Jets coach Eric Mangini said his team received permission to film behind both end zones during the playoff game in January.
“We taped the game, is what we taped, and we taped end-zone copy of the game, and we tape a double end zone, which is standard operating procedure for us,” Mangini said.
“We request that every single road game, and it’s usually granted if physically it’s possible. And when people request it from us, we do the same thing: We grant it.”

ANd the Pats disagreed with Manginas statement. They went on record as stating that they NEVER gave them permission. How is it a non-issue again? Oh yeah I know because its the Jets and only the Pats get penalized for that.

Yes…
-” I would have a lot more respect for them if they came out and said “yeah we did something we shouldn’t have been doing - I accept the punishment of the League.””
That is exactly what Belichick did. You are an idiot.
-”Instead we get “Oh….I misinterpreted the rule that clearly says no cameras or filming.””
Belichick said he thought it was legal as long as you don’t look at the tapes during the same game. Again, you are an idiot.
-”Either Bilichek is a complete idiot or he thinks the general public is to offer such nonsense and expect anybody with any reasonable intelligence to believe it.”
I do not know how to interpret this “sentence”. You didn’t even spell Bill’s name correctly. You are a joke and your opinion is not valued here.

It is a non-issue because nothing ever became of it. If it was an issue don’t you think that the win-at-all-costs Pats would make it a big deal in light of their penalty for taping?
just think logically and thinks start to make sense.
(like, why would the Pats tape if it didn’t help them in some way)
Look, the Pats have been a great team the last seven years, Belichick is great coach and Tom Brady is, arguably, the best QB of all-time . Would they have won the SBs and had a 16-0 season without cheating?..most likely. It is really a shame for the organization and their fans that it is somewhat tarnished by Spygate.
Could other teams have been doing the same thing?..possibly. Did the Jets?…no. Did other teams get fined and a draft pick taken away for it…no.
