As we all wait for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to speak about his three-hour-plus interview with former Pats employee Matt Walsh, the league has released some of the videotapes that Walsh surrendered to the league.
The tapes are being shown to the media that is assembled in New York for Goodell’s press conference.
Goodell is expected to speak to the media soon.
By the way, the television coverage of this event, on both ESPN and NFL Network, is creating the sense that something big is coming.
Then again, so did Geraldo Rivera’s coverage of the moments preceding the opening of Al Capone’s vault.
Meanwhile, various of the talking heads onf ESPN seem to be under the impression that defensive coaching signals taped in the first half of a game can actually be used in the second half. We’d love for one of these geniuses to explain in detail exactly how these Cloverfield-quality tapes could be broken down and digested during the same game.
These tapes were made for use in future games, either against the same team or involving the same head coach or assistant coaches. And we’ve known about this practice since September.
But, then again, ESPN has to talk about something while we wait for the Commissioner to speak.

Florio, would you please call Adam Schefter and explain to him just how easy it is to have a 3 and one half hour meeting in a room full of lawyers.

and the tapes show things that can be seen from every single person inside the stadium.
Not only this, but the NFL continues to ignore other teams doing this, and they are focusing entirely on the Patriots.
Hmmmm, i wonder why the Jets spying on the pats (and lying about having permission) was never investigated?
It wouldn’t have anything to do with the Goodell being an Ex-Jets employee would it?

After watching the videos they’re showing it’s hard to believe these have contributed to the Dynasty’s success.
Move along folks….Nothing to see here…..

Is this like when date a really hot girl, and she keeps leading you to believe you’re going to get a special gift, and then the only special gift you get is going home at night by yourself?

Stay classy, New England.

Is anyone watching ESPN right now? What a joke that network is. First, Trey Wingo is asking Clayton what he thinks was said in the meeting. Uh, good question Trey. Even Clayton has a look of “what the hell kind of question is that?”
They want this to be a story sooooo badly. This is extremely pathetic on all fronts.

If it was something big they would be more of a delay so that they could get any punishment worked out. This is just going to be a big “nothing to see here” type speech. They will say that it is all stuff that they already knew.

Huh. apparently he taped the San Diego Chargers cheerleaders too. Zoomed in when they were bent over during a routine.
Finally Walsh does something worth respecting.

Eisen “it’s outrageous!”
A military junta takes over a country and is so afraid of external influence over ten years later that they let hundreds of thousands of people starve to death for keeping relief effort out followinga devastating storm.
THAT’S “outrageous,” Eisen. Not a videocamera.

This story is old and tired. Even if there was something, what is the NFL really going to do. They’re not going to undo the Super Bowls, and I highly doubt they would ever let anything see the light of day that might undermine the dignity of those games.

You’re such a homer dude. Continue to play up Marvin Harrison with pithy comments. Continue to play down Walsh with pithy comments. Calling people out with pithy comments is soooo much fun! Yes, I DO get the irony. Mostly because it’s true.

You Patriots Spin-Doctors are fooling yourselves and nobody else.
This is surreal. These tapes are just part of the system used to cheat. These are used in conjunction with legal video. They were probably spliced with real film to show the actual footage of game play to create a full picture of what was going on. You have to remember there was probably a team of video analysis experts dispatched to make maximum use.
Say what you will Spin-Doctors but what is going to matter to evryone else and cause you to have to deal with the humiliation is the story behind all of this. The names and marching orders and the real story about whether Beeeeelicehek misinterpreted (eye-roll, a genius who misunderstood a clear rule), whether Brady stayed in NE for less money because he knew his advantage, etc.
Pats=Cheaters

Didn’t the who Spygate issue have more to do with “where” the Pats filmed from than “what” they filmed? These look like end zone recordings, which would have been legal if filmed from the press box, right?

Obviously these tapes are being shown to the public because they contain nothing “juicy”.Otherwise they would have destroyed them just ilke the first set. But know one will ever know what exactly was on those tapes.
Glad to see you’ve already come to a conclusion about the use of the tapes, Florio. Explain again why tapes of signals from the first half couldn’t be used in say…the fourth quarter. Oh that’s right, because the quality is poor. What a crock of shit.

Mark Schlereth and Cris Carter are killing the Patriots for these tapes with Schlereth saying these are even worse than he thought. “Far more damning evidence” than the tape leaked to Glazer in September.”
So, I am going to rely on the opinion of former NFL players rather than homer Pats commenting above that tapes like these provided a significant advantage for the Pats.
Cris Carter, “This is cheating.” “This changes the game.”
Before you comment that I am a Jets fans…Yes, I realize Mangini was there. Yes, that is disappointing. But, the Jets have never had an issue of substance with something like this.

“I highly doubt they would ever let anything see the light of day that might undermine the dignity of those games.”
Replace “dignity” with “integrity” and I would agree. Goodell’s #1 priority is to preserve the integrity of the league, and it’s ability to maximize profits. It’s too bad that there are teams that could not care less about the integrity of the league and do stuff like this. Sorry, I’ll never buy the “every team does it” rationalization.

Goodell is only showing the tapes because he got killed by the media for destroying the tapes in September. He knows that to preclude any semblance of impropriety he has to go the “full disclosure” route this time.
