NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has announced that former Patriots video employee Matt Walsh has provided him with no new evidence of cheating by the team, beyond the information that already has been discovered and disclosed regarding the taping of coaching signals.
Most importantly, Goodell said that Walsh claims there is no evidence of any videotape of the Rams’ walk-through prior to Super Bowl XXXVI. Walsh told Goodell that Walsh didn’t tape it, that he was not aware of anyone who might have taped it, that he hasn’t seen it, and that he knows of no one who taped it. Walsh also said that he was in Superdome at the time of the walk-through, that he was going about his required busines, and that he was on sidelines in Patriots gear while the Rams were practicing.
Goodell said that Walsh also is aware of no other violations of league rules of policies by the Patriots. Goodell specifically ruled out evidence of bugging of locker rooms, manipulation of communications systems, augmenting of crowd noises, and/or placing microphones on players to pick up opponents’ audibles or signals by the Patriots.
Walsh supplied only two new pieces of information — that the Pats used a player on injured reserve during a practice in 2001, and that Walsh was involved in the scalping of eight to ten Super Bowl tickets. As to the former, Goodell claimed that the penalty for using a player in practice who is on injured reserve is the imposition of a fine. But Goodell said that there will be no additional penalty, given the $750,000 in fines previously imposed on the team.
Walsh told Goodell that he wasn’t looking for publicity, and that when Walsh hinted that there was more evidence of cheating to the New York Times, Walsh was under the impression that it wasn’t well known that the practice dated back to the 2000 season.
And that’s because it wasn’t well known. Though the NFL has tried to perpetuate the notion that the Pats ‘fessed up to taping it has been common knowledge since September, it wasn’t widely reported until February 2008.
Finally, and we hope that the people at ESPN were listening closely to this, Goodell said that Walsh’s tapes weren’t used during the same game.

Did Belichick use videotaping improperly? Sure.
Are the Colts harboring a murderer? Perhaps.
Which one of these two should be the headline grabber? What you are seeing is a well played PR campaign to redirect attention from the substantial negative press that NFL players (not on the Pats, mind you) have been generating lately by focusing on a non-story about video taping.
It seems to be working well. Belichick continues to be demonized, and Harrison has yet to appear for a single interview to answer for his role in a murder, and the injury of a child.
Look behind the curtain, boys….

The guy Harrison allegedly got in a fight with and was later shot possibly with his gun, is not dead and is not pressing charges against Harrison, so far.
The NFL does like to spin stories a certian way, like focusing on what was not on the tapes as opposed to what was. Focusing on the Jets game and not the entire 7 years of “mis interpreting” the rules.

Wow, this must be a sad day at ESPN. Now they have to spend all of their time trying to make the Boston Herald look bad in order to cover for all of the hype they put behind the story of the Pats cheating. I would like to see if any analysts who were blasting the Pats actually apologize, but they likely won’t. Most of those guys are all a bunch of frontrunners. It’s gotten to the point where I HATE watching any NFL programming on ESPN. I like John Clayton and Mort though since all they mainly do is relay facts.

You patriots sheep are really amusing…it is so naive to think the NFL unfairly punished the Patriots and wanted this to become such a huge story so that questions would be risen as to the legitimacy of this dynasty who practiced this for the better part of a decade. The EVIDENCE was destroyed you morons, the NFL tried desperately to sweep this under the rug and not cause further embarrassment. Now why would they do that? Destroy all evidence and then, 9 months later, tell the public only some of what they knew. Oh and this garbage about every other team in the league doing this..what evidence has come out that suggests this? Sure, they might get a birds eye view of the game from the press box, but they aren’t filming defensive signals from less than a 100 yards away.
The subversion and secrecy of this story was unprecedented, Goodell made a fool out of himself today.Of course he is going to side with the Pats to prevent further questions of the integrity of the game you idiots.
Yes the only thing they did wrong was film from the wrong location, sure thing sheep. The league most certainly didnt uncover any damning evidence to suggest they were up to more than whats been revealed, because if they would have, they would have tried to brush it under the rug and consequently drag this story out for almost a year. Oh wait, thats exactly what happened.

PFTiswhatitis , I am sorry to disappoint you, but there is no hating going on here. They were punished for breaking the rules of the game, that IS cheating. They are the only one team ever in the NFL that has been branded as such. The Pats are cheaters. They broke the rules from 2000 to 2007. It is a sad affair. However, the excuse people use that “other people do it”, or to find solace in someone or some organization being as “wrong” as the Pats through their own rules violations, is even more pathetic.
The whole thing is sad and defending it is even sadder.

People, people PEOPLE!!!
“All these years of cheating”…”Over a decade of cheating”…”A team with a history of cheating”…
These are false statements that are being flung around carelessly. The rule was not amended until 2006. Anything that happened before then was not “cheating”. It was not against the rules!!!
Let’s not forget also the Pats matched up very well against the Rams that year. The last loss the Pats had before they won 9 in a row in ‘01 was a 24-17 regular season loss to the Rams. The Pats should’ve won THAT game, too!!!

bc_22, a Cheerleader, once again….please…pay attention….let your hate simmer…and try to look at the FACTS…….every team in the NFL taped defensive signals up until 2006, when the NFL sent out a memo to the league telling everyone to stop. Then, prior to the 2007 season, they sent out another memo to once again remind every team that it was not allowed. Prior to that…every team did it and there was no rule stating they couldn’t. Are we clear on that now? Yes, the Patriots did do it again in 2007 and they were in fact hit hard with penalties for doing so…..and rightly so……whether thru “misinterpreting the rule” or by being arrogant and thinking they could get away with it…..but the fact is…every team did it prior to 2006(and many still did it afterwards too), but the Patriots ignored the memo in 2007 and got penalized. There…I hope that clears it up once and for all for those of you who just can’t see thru the haze in your eyes.

Yankeemofo, thank you for posting this FACT…I have been saying this for months, but the “haters” refuse to look at this FACT….cause it doesn’t suit their need to call the Patriots “cheaters”.

What?! Walsh has tapes of the San Diego Chargers Chearleaders? Where can I get a hold of them?
Ron Burgandy
Seriously, this whole soap opera is out of control. Walsh waited over 100 days only to reveal he is a ticket scalper? And the Boston Herald betrayed the Patriots the day of the Super Bowl based on heresay?
If Gossip and Slander are sin! ESPN and the Boston Herald are on the fast track to Hell.
