A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that Matt Walsh was not the person who videotaped defensive coaching signals of the Patriots-Chargers game from 2002.
Walsh was no longer working in the video department at the time.
The source reached out to us in this regard, and possibly will be reaching out to others in the media as well. The apparent reason for the clarification in this regard is that the video contains some gratuitous close-up shots of the Chargers cheerleaders “performing” a routine, which might have gotten Mr. Walsh in hot water with Mrs. Walsh.

If he wasn’t even working in the department how the heck did he get a copy of the tape??? This makes Walsh look shadier then ever, was he busting into the taping room after hour and making copies of this stuff? Freakin’ loser.

OMG, they taped the cheerleaders. That’s got to be worth 2 first round picks.
This thing just gets funnier and funnier. People like Mike Fish, Greg Easterbrook, and Peter King are now looking like absolute fools. Remember the articles Fish and King wrote in February where they wrote the rumour that Walsh taped the walk-thru of the red zone practice must be true because of the Rams’ lack of success in the red-zone?
After months of spinning allegations to sell copy, will any of these “journalists” have the guts to admit they were wrong? Not bloody likely. Tomase just published a piece in which he completely failed to address the Herald piece was wrong.

None of this negates the fact that the Pats CHEATED since 2000, including through all 3 Super Bowl periods.

Why do you fail to understand that the Pats admitted the violation and took their punishment which was severe. Apparently the penalty was not good enough for YOU who probably wanted the death penalty.

I dont know about this whole thing. It took an awfully long time for this to come out, with an awful lot of lawyer types talking. I feel like Walsh didn’t come out with the whole thing, maybe he got thrown some money or something like that, who knows. It just seems like if he just had these BS tapes from today this whole time, the story wouldnt have become this big, the anticipation for him to talk. It’s just in SO many peoples best interests for this thing to be quieted and not brought into the forefront…I dont know. Or maybe Walsh is just in serious need of attention, but he didn’t appear that way today.

You just gotta laugh at Patriots apologists acting like they’ve been cleared of all charges. LOL. Somehow they keep forgetting the fact that there is video evidence that the Patsies cheated for 6 seasons, including in an AFC Championship game. Hate to break it to you Cheatriots fans, but the damage is already done. It’s a documented fact that your team cheated for 6 seasons, including in the playoffs.

hey spyboots…it was legal to tape from the sideline til 2006.
the Pats were penalized for taping from the sideline, not stealing signals, cause guess what, stealing signals is legal.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. As to why it took Walsh so long to talk when the NFL offered him immunity several months ago (he had a lot of stolen property, remember) I don’t know. Maybe he’ll say himself in an interview eventually. I wouldn’t be averse to opening up the investigation, making every head coach in the league for the past ten years testify as to whether or not he’s ever videotaped signals. But like you say there’s no way it’s in the interest of the league to let this get any bigger than it is.

It’s odd that Walsh has tapes that were recorded after he left the Pats. Could he have gotten them from a current member of the Jets coaching staff who formerly worked in New England?
