Titans running back LenDale White revealed today that he played the entire 2007 season on an injured knee — a knee that he says feels fine after he took part in today’s organized team activities.
“This happened last year in preseason. I tore my meniscus,” White said today, per Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper. “I played on it all season. Contrary to what people believe, I am a soldier. I played on it all year and I didn’t complain, not once. I waited until the season was over to get it fixed and now I’m feeling good.”
White started all 16 games in 2007 and played in the Titans’ first-round playoff loss before having arthroscopic surgery in January. He carried 304 times for 1,108 yards, and he now says he was doing it with a knee that hampered him.
“It affected me a lot, because it took me a long time to get warmed up. It was catching a lot and it hurt on certain days,” White said. “When we played San Diego, it was hurting bad. I came in and tried to put Ben Gay on it and Flexall 454, and I tried to get it warmed up as best I could. But now, I’m back and it’s 100 percent and it feels good.”
As he heads into his third NFL season, White is expected to be the Titans’ starter again this year. But the addition of first-round running back Chris Johnson means he’s likely to get fewer carries in 2008 than he had in 2007, which might help him stay healthy.
Staying healthy would also help White battle the weight problems he has had in the past. Coach Jeff Fisher said the knee injury appears to be affecting White’s conditioning, and the Titans’ coaches have said they would like White to play at around his listed weight of 235 pounds, a target weight he typically hasn’t been able to reach.

Just another example that LT has no heart. White plays a full season on a bum knee and LT can’t even do 4 quarters with a Superbowl appearance on the line.

Man, I have torn multiple knee ligaments before including my meniscus. LenDale deserves credit for being a tough SOB and putting it all on the field.
Mucho props.

I had bet my friends LenDale was going to be a better pro than Bush and it seems to be paying off. If he got really serious about conditioning and working to get really fit he could be a great RB. With Chris Johnson they can have a Bettis/Parker back field with White/Johnson. My only question is why are they giving up on Chris Henry? The guy showed some serious flashes last year on very limited touches even though he did end with a 4 game suspension. I feel like Chris Johnson was a bit of a wasted pick unless they are going to move him all around the field

He should get in touch with his ex-teammate (and I apparently now his current teammate) Mike Williams’ nutritionist. Did wonders for him.

Looks are deceiving. As unlikely as he looks as a running back, you’ve got to admit, he can bust it on up in there. Here’s hoping his wheels are in better shape and let’s see what he can really do.

I tore my menicus while reaching for a discus called a dinner plate. When I got to Tennessee, all those restaurants advertising AUCE meant Amercians Use Caution Exceptionally, after all I went to USC. Come to find out, it’s All you can eat! Whoooo hoooo. I love me some BBQ anything.

Actually, being in shape would help prevent injury to begin with.

would’ve carried a lot more weight if somebody else had broken the news, as opposed to Lendale trying to talk himself up.
the ability to play on a torn meniscus depends largely on the severity of the tear - he could very well have put forth a herculean effort, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he could’ve been playing on the equivalent of a sore knee. i tore mine sliding into a base a few years back, and didn’t realize i did anything more than just tweak my knee until it tore most of the rest of the way a few months later (then it sucks).
still, even if it was just a slight tear, the odds of it not tearing more by the end of the season (at the very least, probably right before the san diego game when he noted it being particularly painful) are slim to none, so he does gain some measure of respect in my eyes. it would just be a lot more if he didn’t come across as offering excuses for poor performance while trying to prove how tough he is - unfair as it may be.

So is he saying he lied by not reporting an injury to the team, or that the team lied by not putting him on the injury report. Since he seems to know what is medically wrong with it, it seems hard to believe that the team did not. What do your sources say about that Florio?
