In a move that was widely expected and that allows him to apply for disability benefits, the Buffalo Bills have cut tight end Kevin Everett.
Everett suffered a broken neck during Week One of the 2007. Though he has regained his ability to walk, his football career is over.
“We had numerous discussions with the league in dealing with this process to assist him in the best way possible,” the Bills said in a statement Tuesday. “Kevin will always remain a Buffalo Bill in the same way that Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and so many others before him are held in the highest regard by our franchise.”

I think this opens the door for him to get an injury settlement. This is not the heartless gesture it seems on the face.

Let’s see Upshaw try to argue his disabilities aren’t football related. “If he’d tackled properly, he wouldn’t be hurt. He had his head in the wrong position. Therefore, it’s his problem, not the Union’s. I need a raise.

“he can apply for a long-term disability payment of $224,000 a year over the life span of his injury.”
I’m confused.
Didn’t Kyle Turley tell us in that radio spat with Robert Smith that the NFL didn’t provide this benefit at all?

I assume you were joking about the Pacman stuff Referee. That dude made his own mess and he can deal with it.

Doesn’t matter if Referee was joking or not, any statement about Pacman does not belong in the same sentence as Everett.
Pacman is a piece of garbage and should be viewed as a lesson on how NOT to live your life or behave. I hope he never gets reinstated, and I wish people would stop talking about him altogether. And for those that don’t know, I am a Cowboys fan.
Everett is a feel good story, and should be viewed as a roll model on how to never give up.

You know, for a bunch of guys that read a football blog writen by a huge wiseass you sure are sensitive. NO FUN ZONE! NO FUN ALLOWED! SERIOUS BUSINESS ONLY!
By the way how is Everett a ROLE model. He broke his neck, he didn’t cure cancer. He’s just a dude that was injured in a manner way less serious than it was initially reported. I’m not saying it wasn’t a serious injury. I’m just saying there is a HUGE difference between being paralyzed and not being paralyzed.

Jhal,
wow…could you be any *less* sensitive?? He was paralyzed after the hit, unable to walk, no feeling in his lower extremities. Most people that receive that kind of trauma to the neck/spinal cord do not regain movement in their limbs. He’s a role model (thanks for the spell check!) because in this day and age, so many people look for the easy way out when bad karma happens; they look for the nearest target to sue. Everett decided that he wasn’t going to just accept his current state, he worked his butt off, and overcame a a lot of difficulties in regaining the ability to walk.
If you really think that’s no big deal, then feel free to go to your local hospital and yell at all the paraplegics for being lazy b!tches. Be sure to let us know how that goes.
