Tomase, reacting to a story a day earlier in the New York Times, jumped the gun and went with his pre-Super Bowl story in the full knowledge that he was quoting one potentially unreliable and anonymous source. What amazes me is not that he took the plunge, but that his editors chose to publish such a journalistically unsound piece of reporting.

The Herald is pathetic and Tomase is pretty much dead in New England right now. He bet on Matt Walsh and lost.

I'm a Patriots fan but admit they got what they deserved and brought this on themselves. There would be no Tomase or Walsh if they hadn't continued with the taping beyond 2006 when the memo from the NFL office was released. But Tomase also deserves his fate. He went with a weak source and didn't corroborate.

LOL. This isn't a blemish for anyone but the Patriots. There is hard physical evidence of the Patriots cheating throughout the entirety of their "dynasty". LOL. There is also hard physical evidence of the Patriots cheating during the 2002 AFC Championship game. Funny how the apologists somehow think they've dodged a bullet. The damage is already to done to the reputation of the franchise, the players and coaches, and the legacy. You boys and girls are going to be seeing asterisks attached to anything Patriots-related from the years 2000-2006 for the rest of your lives......if not from the league then from the fans.

The Herald is taking the right course of action. They'll take their lumps today and tomorrow and act like nothing happened. At some point they might get around to printing a two line retraction that they'll bury next to an article on how to plant petunias.

Hey Tecumseh, since when did getting shot in the hand equal dead? This is a big story because everyone is screaming about the integrity of the game (sports journalists do not get to use the word "besmirch")but it turns out, there was no new challenges to said integrity. Which means the Patriots got unfairly smeared by people with their own agenda.

The press conference story isn't even on the Herald's website. What a joke.

As much as this whole deal will be a blemish for the Pats, it will be the same for Sal Pal, Fish, and Tomase to name a few.

That's it Herald just pretend it doesn't exist. Maybe it will just go away. Not likely.

Take a lesson from Roger Clemens, print a retraction or update your story to explain what was actually happening when it was written. Coming clean with the truth is your best bet. If not I hope that Bob Kraft decides to go after you.

Haha apparently all the mean comments about Tomase have too much for him to handle, as they have disabled all comments on any of his articles.

Also you're damn right that the main story is that the Pats didn't tape the walkthrough. That is all we have been hearing for months, and now it was revealed it didn't happen. Yeah I'd say thats big.

Sad day for all you Patriot haters. Nothing new was revealed that wasn't already known except a couple of players might have scalped some tickets.Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, Marty Schottenheimer have gone on record about their taping practices. They broke the rule were caught & sustained a hefty punishment. Bob Kraft & BB will get their 750K when they are done suing the Herald & that FAT LIAR John Tomase for printing such a malicious LIE without verifying their facts. Papers thast print trash like the Herlad belong on supermarket shelves.

While Walsh took the Sgt. Schulz approach, the collective media upon hearing of the lack of another chance to rip on the Patriots, seemed to take the Maxwell Smart road.... Missed it by that much...

Yes, that is the story. I'm quite sure you already knew they had taped games.

Tomase and The Herald's silence is baffling. If, as we all suspect, Walsh was the source of the Rams walk through lie, why doesn't the Herald just say so? They have no obligation to protect a source that fed them false info. Especially if that source appears to be a disgruntled employee. Personally, I think Walsh changed his story once he realized how big his bs story had become.

Now if it Tomase's source wasn't Walsh, why on earth would the Herald keep quiet? They could tell us so without divulging their source. Real newspapers do so all the time. Then again, real newspapers print retractions when they make mistakes too.

Is that the real story here, Florio? That the Pats didn't tape the walkthru practice? C'mon...they taped signals at a playoff game (Steelers), how about that for integrity. How about the real issues...makes me sick to be a fan today.
